This invention aims to provide a simple burner which, at the will of an operator, may be used either with oil or with'gas as a fuel, novel means being provided for breaking up and heating the fuel.
Figure 1 shows in longitudinal section, a
device constructed in accordance with the invention, parts being in elevation; Figure 2 body 1 includes a central chamber 6 and an outer chamber 7 thereabout. For the purpose of draining off water or anything else which may accumulate in the outer chamber 7, the bottom portion of the shell 2 is supplied with a cock 8. A gas pipe 9 communicates with chamber 6 by way of the end 3 of the shell 2. An oil pipe 10 communicates with the gas pipe 9. In the gas pipe 9 is located a hand valve 11. The oil pipe 10 is provided with a hand valve 12. Air is admitted into the gas pipe 9 by means of a regulating valve 14, under the control of an operator. A steam pipe 15 is connected to the shell 2 and communicates with the outer chamher 7. Steam under pressure is supplied the central or inner a valve 20, under the control of an operator, is interposed. Ordinarily, the valve 20 is closed. 2 1
When the valve 16 and the valve 11 are opened, steam is discharged by the pipe 15 into the outer chamber 7 to heat the fuel which passes into the inner chamber 6 by way'of the pipe 9, and the steam also flows through the pipe 17 and is discharged into the nozzle 18, to produce a fuel jet in the well known way. If desired, the valve 11 may be closed, and the valve 12 may be opened, whereupon oil will replace gas as a fuel. Air is admitted into the mixture, by way of the valve 14, under the control of an operator. By opening the valve 20, steam may be admitted from the pipe 15 into the pipe 19, and into the pipes 9 and 10, to blow them out.
What is claimed is In a device of the class described, a body having an inner chamber and an' outer chamber thereabout, a burner communicatingwith one end of the inner chamber, a fluid-pressure pipe disposed within the inner chamber axially thereof, one end of the fluid-pressure pipe extending into the burner and the other end of the fluid-pressure pipe communicating with the outer chamber, a fuel conduit discharging into the inner chamber at the extreme opposite end thereof, from the burner, the fuel conduit 75 being made up of an oil branch and a gas branch, valves in. the said branches, and under the control of an operator, the fluidpressure pipe being provided with a pipe which communicates with the fuel conduit, 80 and a valve interposed in the last-specified, branch.
