This inventionrelates to changeable signs and is designed more particularly .for use as a price Signat gasoline filling stations andthe like. f b Onehobject `of the invention is to provide a changeablesign in which the'displayl card rwill be iirinly' held in'position but may be Aquickly and easily removed when the sign is to be changed.
A further object` of the invention is to provide the signandgthe Cardwith interlockingparts which will form a' sli'dable 4connection betweenthesame and will hold o the card firmlyY against' swinging or other transverse movement. l y Other object-s ofthe inventionwill@y appear as the'device is described in detail?l In' theaccompanyingdrawingsl Fig. vl 'is a front elevationof adevice embodying my invention;v Fig;` 2 is 'a top plan l viewI ofI the same; and Fig. 3 is a section taken "on the line S-Sof Figi. Y
In these drawings' Ithave" lillustrated one embodiment of my invention and have shown the same in connection with a particular style of price card designed for indi-A eating the price ofrgasoline, but it will be understood that this embodiment has been chosen for the purposesof illustration only and that any suitable lprice indications may be used and that the device may take various forms without departing ,from the spirit of the invention,
As Vhere shown the sign proper, or price at the center of the card and the prices for the various quantities are arranged in two vertical columns on opposite sides of the price per gallon. Preferably similar signs appear on both sides of the card. y This card `is detachably mounted on a suitable sup-V porting structure so that it will be held firmly in a position in which it will be readable by customers but willube supported in such a manner that it can be readily removed from the Asupporting structureandv V another card substituted therefor, when the card, is in the form of a rectangularv plate,YV
priceA is tolbe changed. Thus vby having at hand' a 'serieso-f' cards covering all probl` able vfluctuations *in price .Y the dealer -can quickly change y Y char'iges'in price; f p Y Thesupporting lstructure' may take'various forms but, "in the present instance, I have shown the same inthe form of an elongated yhis' sign to conformV with arm 2 'havring'at itsinneren'dnparts constiti'itinga bracket bfymeans of 'which' the'structure may be attached tol awall, adispensing pump, or'thelike. As here shown, the arm '2 is in the, form ofy aba'r formed ofsheet metal and the inner end portion thereofis bentV laterally, as shown atB, to form one aijm oft-he bracket, '-and al'second arm 4 i'sri-gidly securedto the barQ'so that the-:arms fa'ndli constitute V-shaped bracket.4V @bviously however-,- this bracket' may be of any suitablev character. The supportingl arm and; the pri ce Acard are provided with'finterlocking parts by means of *whichthey mayE be4 slidablyVv connectedo`ne toj` the otherbutr-the card will'be held against swinging movement or other transverse movement relatively to the arm. To this end I have provided each of the two members with a guideway, each member hav-V ing a part adapted to enter the guideway in the other member. In the present construction the arm 2 is formed from a strip of flat sheet metal and the upper edge of the arm is bent downwardly, as shown at 5, to providel a guideway extending lengthwise of the armv atthe upper edge-thereof. Ar'- ranged beneath this guidewayV but spaced some distance from the lowerl edge of the arm lis a longitudinally` extending bead 6 which projects from that' face ofthe arm adjacent to the guideway. The card lhas formed therein, near the upperedge thereof, a longitudinal groove 7 jadapted to receive a bead j 6 and fit snugly about the same. The upper edge portion of theplate projects above the groove 7 as shown at 8, and is adapted to enter the guideway at the upper edge ofy the 10()V arm. The edge of the plate enters the guideway a distance sufficient to hold the plate against turning movement about an axis extending lengthwise of the arm. The bead which enters the guideway or groove 7 in the plate holds the .plate firmly against vertical displacement with relation to the arm, and that portion ofthe arm which extends belowthebead forms a firm contact surface which assists in holding the plate in proper y relation to the arm. ,It will be apparent that the arrangement ot the guideway and cooperating parts are such that'the plate` can be vmounted 1 on the arm only bybringingthe guidewaysk and their vassociated parteinto alineinentat the outer end ofthe arin and `then sliding the plate onto the aiin `until f occupies the position shown in the'drawings'.
W hen thus mounted on. the larin, ,the card Vwill beheld lirnily in' position' because vthe interlocking parte ot the arin and theV card `chan'gealole price signwhich is very simplein itsrconstruotionywhioh can be produced at a relatively sniall cost and 1n which the sign rrnay be very quickly and easily changed;
