DENTAL CASTING MACHINE.
Application filed October'l., 1924. Serial No'. 746,983.
This invention relates to dental casting' machines such as are. used by dentists in. casting` plates, bridges, inlays or other restorations.
In; machines of the character specified,l
l l0 metal into' all' portions of the mold. cavity. The invention has'ffor-its salient object to,`
simplify the; construction off machines-of' the character described and particularly toy simplify the valvel construction Jfor controlling A the, passage of the compressedV airv to the` cap) and flask.
Another object offY the invention isito `provide, a machine ot the character described that will' be self-contained and'V compact and so` constructed. andl arranged that no, flex:- ible tubes or hose, which rapidly Vdeteriorate f in; use on machinesv ot thischaracter, will be located near the flask so as to be affected by the heat thereof.
Further objects of the invention will appear from the following specification taken in connection with the drawings, which form a; part. of this application, andinwhich- Fig'. 1 is an elevational view o5 a 1nachine constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the air conduit, seal-ing cap and valve structure showing" the valve closed, Vand i Fig. 3I is` a View similar toFig; 2,. but
showing the valve open.
The invention. briefly described consists ofa casting machine having. a cap; adapted to seal the upper end? yof a flask, al conduit for conducting airl to the capY and valve structure. located at the upper end of the conduit. Ln the particular form of the: invention. shown,
the valvev structure comprises a vallve fixedly secured to thev upper` end of the air conduit` and a valve casing movably mounted on the valve and having an air inlet conduit connected thereto and communicating therewith. In operation, when the lever actuating means is operated, the valve casing will Y be depressed, placing the valve in communication with the air intake conduit of the casing, .thereby permitting air to' pass to` the sealingl capl thence to the flask Further details of the inyen and casting. tion-1 willappear from-the following deSGlip.- tion. i Y
In. the form of the invention illustrated, the machine comprises a baise 10 having. an
upright frame 11. secured thereto.' Spaced bearings 12 andy 13 are formed on the frame 11 for supportangl the plunger andair conduits as-hereinafter set'forth. 'n 'A pump 14 issiqaportedz on the base and communicates with an air pI'CSSllle Supply;
1 relater is connectedthroug-hl a link l23V tothe fra-me n a. 2e.
A valve casi-ng 25a is vconnected- `to;l theend of, thesleere ori-plungerY 20A through coupling 26, tjlie ,ulgnperA end ot the upper casing beingv closed as shown at 247.` Anjair intake conduit 28. communicates with the casing intermediate Aits ends and is, connected? by a tube 29 tothexpressugre tank 1 5.,
A slide valve 30' is reciprocably mounted inthe casing 25A and has; packing.- 31; and 3,2
at the two ends thereoli and a; groove 33'. The valve 3QV isl intermediate the ends. formed on; or secured' to; the upperI end of a hollow valve steinl Bl and the annular v groove 33 communicates with the, longitudinalopening the. valve stem byy 'means' of radial openings 3.5i Ar spring 86?. sigllzter-y posed between` the closedl end 27' of the val-ve; casing and the packing-31, a washer 3 j preferably -bein-g: interposed. between the spring and the packing.; I
The closing movement off the valve, under v the influence 0i spring: 36 slilnitecl by the engagement of the packing Washer. S12-With an internal flange 38 formed, 'on the cous y 'Ihehollo-W valvesteln 3a which forms an air conduit has mounted o n its. lower end, a
sleeve or plunger 20, this reduced end por-v tion forming 'shoulder l5 'for limiting the movement of the plunger into the cap vextension 43 and for insuring thereglstratlon of the annular groove 83 ofthe valve with the conduit 2 8V when the plunger is de-` Y pressed.
YThe cap l0 preferably has secured therein by a nut 48 a thimble 46 for diffusing` the air as it passesV into the flask.- Y Y The flask 41 is shownas supported in a cup-like base 50 and the'upper end of the I 'A flask has a cover ll'mounted thereon having a central opening 52 for permitting the n port 50. Molten metal is placed in the mold cavity andpth'elever 22deA swung in acouuter-clockwise direction, thereby forcing,` theplunger 2O downwardly. 4The plunger c ar- ,which yclosesand'seals the flask. 'cap has engaged and sealed the flask, con
riesrwit'h it-the'valve.casingy-valve and hollowvalve stem or air conduit and the cap lVhen the tinu'ed manipulation-of the lever and downward' movement of the plunger will `cause the plunger and casing carried thereby to Vmove relative'V to vthevalvev stem and valve,
Vthereby placing the vvalve in a position in which the air-"intake conduitof the casing registers withfthejannular groove 33 of the valve, permitting air to pass Vdownwardly through A.the hollow valve stem to vthe cap,
lWhenthel pressure on the lever is released andthe leveris swung intheopposite direction, the spring 36 Willfcause the-valve to move tothe position shown in Fig. 2 or to its closed position, thereby shutting ofi" the Y l0 air pressure from ther-,ap and closing the Vair passage. Y
Although one specic embodiment of' the invention has been particularly shown and described, it will be understood that the invention is capable of modification and that V.changes in the construction and in the ar- 'Vra'ngement of the various cooperating parts may be made without departing `from the spirit or scope of the'invention, as expressed secured to Vsaid cap, a plunger slidably mounted on said valve stem, a valve mounted on the free end of said valve stem, acasing secured to said plunger and enclosing said leakage of the air past the valve.'
2. In-a casting machine, a `cap `adapted Y to close Aand seal a flask, a hollow valve stem secured to said cap, a valve mount-ed on the free end of said valve stem and havine radial openings thereincommunicating with the longitudinal opening'V in sa'idhollow valve stem, a plunger slidably mounted on said valve stem andhaving a casing-secured tovone end thereof, an air intake conduit communicating'y with said casing', meansfor effecting relative movement between said plunger and casing and said valve. and valve stem to establish communication between said casi-ng, intake conduitand the radial openings in said valve, andsealingineans in said 'casingabcve andfbelow the valve openings for Vpreventingleakage of the air past the valve. Y U
to close andseal a flask," a hollenT valve stem secured to said'cap, a plunger slidablyv mounted on said valve stem, a valve mounted at the free end of said valve ,stem having an annular groove therein and radial openings connect-ing` saidtgroove'to the longitudinal opening,v n said hollow valve stem, a casing enclosing, said valve and secured to said plunger, an air intake'conduit communicating with saideasing, means kforsliding said-f Yplunger and casing` on said valvestem to establish' communication kbetween' .said cas-l ing", intakev conduit and thegroove in Vsaid valve, and sealing means in said casing above and belowV the valve openings for preventing,` leakage of the air past the valve.Y Y el. In a castimgr machine,a cap adaptedY to close and seal a flask, a hollow valve stem secured to said cap, a plunger slidabl)7 mounted on said valve stem` a valve mounted on the free end of said valve stem, a casing` secured to said plunger and enclosing,T said` valve, an air intake conduit connected to said casing, means for sliding` saidplunger on said valve stem to open and closethe valve, vand vresilientlv compressed" sealingY means inthe casing'above andxbelow the valve forpreventing ,leakage ofthe `air past the valve, Y
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of October` 1924.
