The object of this invention yis to provide a refrigerator box suitable for meat dealers and `others who require refrigeiiating space Y greater than can be containedin a box which will lpass through Van ordinary door, and which can beshipped inknock-down form with each of Vthe ,separatel parts f sufficiently Y parts being assembled and'held vtogether by means Vwhich will vpermit of repeated separation, 'shipment'and reassembling without injury, the walls having good'insulating properties and the joints being sufficiently tight to'prevent air circulation therethrough which will appreciably impare the refrig-V eration. n
ln 4the accompanying sheet of drawings which forms a .part of this description Figure 1 isa horizontal section on the linev I-I o-f Fig. 2 through a refrigerator box which embodies this-invention. l
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same with the front4 wall broken away.
Fig. 3 is a horizontalsection to a larger scale showing separated the meeting edges of two sections of a side wall and in dotted line one moved into its closed relation 'with the other.
consists of inner sheathing 10 and outer Fig. 4 isVv a horizontal section showing similarly the meeting edges of two side walls at a corner. v Y Fig. 5 is a vertical section showing similarly the meeting edges between a side wall and the bottomrwall. p
Each of the walls or sections of side walls v sheathing 11, suitably seven-eightli inch tongued and Vgroo-ved spruce, between which is sheet cork board 12 which is three to lsix inches in thickness according to the insulation desired. This is applied with hot asphalt and insulationpaper on both sides next to the sheathing, or any otherv insulating material may be used.` Around the edges of the vertical lside walls and secthe framework are y set wholly within the edges of both the inner and outer sheathing. constituting the roof or ceiling andfloor of Surrounding the top and bottom 'walls theboX is a mitered frame of milledI spruce studs 15,7tne edges being rabbeted to receive Y' the edges ofthe sheathing. The rabbet on the inner sideis deeperl th'anthe thickness of the sheathing 'so' that l the vframe will project beyond the 'inner sheathing 'ande vlock behind' the innerV sheathing o'lfthe vertical 'Y walls :and holdv them' in r placeat the top Y at the vertical corners. l i
and bottomf independently of the lagscrewsr .'70 If the refrigerator box is'offsuch sizejthat-v a wallin oney piece is too large -topass through a `door ror 'fonconvenient handling and shipment, it is made in sections'whicli arev bolted together and held by carriage bolts 16, 16. VVherethe nuts of the carriage boltscome the cork insulation and the outside studding is. cut away sufficiently for the insertion and setting up of the nuts. Covers 17, 17 close thesey openings. i
It is necessary for the economical use of ice or other refrigerating means that there should be `no perceptible lleakage of air at* the six or more joints where the sections are brought together and as the spruce studs in the framework may be warped so that they cannot be drawn snugly together Valong their entire lengths tomake a suiiiciently close joint it is lnecessary to compensate for such irregularities and warping as are usual by interposing strips of felt v 18, 18 and drawing the parts together withconsiderable force between vwhich theV felt strips areV placed. Since the packing lies in grooves'between inner and outer sheath-` ing which prevents 1t from vspreadingv side#` wise it is `necessary to use a packing such j as felt wliichwill compress inrvolume instead of a packing which merely4 distorts under pressure without changing mate-y It has been found desir`` able to use one-half 'inch' strips between rially in volume.
sections of a side and the samethickness at corners Vwhere two vertical sides meet,
and by tightening on the carriagebolts vorV lag screws compress these strips on an average to a thicknessuof one-quarterk ofV an inch. For packing between the top or bot-Y toni framework and the horizontal .frameworklme'mbers of the verticalsides oneinch felt is used and will be compressed aboutV rio one-third by the weightl ofthe .sides 'andtop Without the userof screws, but screws may ybeused if needed in addition.
The usual tray 20 is set in the boxfor Van lice-bunker or for supporting refrigeratingcoils. As'the'verticallsi'des are held togetherby lag screws at the Corners the top is not essential for Vthis purpose, and
if mechanical refrigeration isto be 'used the coils are more conveniently installed before the top. isputon; c v
Asics-boxes areus-ually constructed about one-fourth` of the refrigeration which is provided is used inV cooling the contents which is to be cooled andthree-fourths is chargeablev to losses fromV leakagethrough thecywalls and from :changes lin air -which take lplaceV When entering :to take out or Y replacestoclir.V j This loss is `much increased* Y Y in the ,easeof/a sectional box unless adequate means as here detailed l:is used to prevent of inflow.

It will be noted that the `felt packing is soplaeed that it is Wholly concealed by the sheathing both inside and out and inacces-V sible to inice or other vermin.
What We claim, is- Y Y A sectional refrigerator box comprising separable Yvertical side Walls each of which consists of' innervand outer sheathing With interposed non-conducting material and a`V ,framework breaking joint with the edges of the sheathing the framework at the tops and bottoms of the vertical' side Walls being set Wholly-Within the edges 'of the'sheathing7 bottom and top L.Walls .separable'fnfrom 1 the side Wal-ls eachofwhi'oh 4consists of inner 1 and outer sheathing with interposed nonecond-ueting material anda surrounding framework Which proj eets beyondtlie inner sheathing vand `locks behind the .edges `of the inner. sheathing of .the vvertical:sideV Walls, ya strip of eompressible'felt'lbetween each ofthe pairs of meeting.:framework edges, and meanszfor tightlyholdin'gthe sid-es in assembled'relation'.v
