KEY RETAINER Filed A ril; 9. 1926 INVENTOR WITNESS: v ATTOPNEY Patented Feb, 1, 1927.
ROBERT W. BALDWIN, JR., OF ISLIP, 1\TE:W YORK.
" KEY RETAINER.
Application filed April 9',
This invention relates to a key, the general object of the invention being to provide means for holding a key in the keyhole of a lock so that it cannot fall out by the door slamming or accidentally fall out through other causes.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the sev- 10 eral parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, ref- 5 erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the sev-' eral views, and in which Figure 1 is an edge view'of the improved key.
Figure 2 is an elevation.
Figure. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
As shown in these views, I form a recess 1 in the keyhole engaging part of the key A and place a bowed spring 2 therein, this spring projecting from the recess and having one end riveted or otherwise secured to the 1926. Serial No. 100,957.
key. Thus when the key is inserted into the keyhole of a lock, the spring Will give su'fficiently to pass into the hole, but it-wili frictionally engage the wall of the hole and thus yieldingly hold the key in the lock. The spring will permit the key to bore moved from the lock forcibly, but it will prevent the key from falling out of the lock when the door on which the lock is blaced I is slammed. The spring will prevent 21 0- I cidental removal of the key from the lock and the key will remain in place until it is forcibly pulled from the lock.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily-apparent.
I desire it tobe understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
. What I claim is 50 A key having a recess formed in its keyhole engaging portion and a bowed spring having its ends placed in the recess with one 7 end connected withthe bottom of the recess.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
