rl`he present invention has for its object an apparatus for cleaning the panes and WindoW-screensor glasses on vehicles of any kind.
For the purpose of cleaning such panes and Window-screens onsvehicles of any' kind and for removing from them anyl hard crusts oi' ice and frozen snow, as will be found on the Window-panes and Windowscreens of locomotives, ships, motor-cars and the like various constructions of cleaning apparatus have been proposed. To this end, for example, Wipers have been used Which Were made of rubber yielding perse or by means of metal springs and intended to remove any moist deposit or rain-drops from the Windows and furthermore corrugated orV toothed layers such as metal brushes or knife-like metal strips have been arranged in such a manner that these metal layers or Y strips Will come into touch with and act on the Window-panes and glasses together With the rubber during an increased pressure on the wiping device. l y
Said combined arrangements of rubberlayers on the one hand and metal-layers or knife-like metal strips on the other hand in connection With Wipers. however have the disadvantage that said metal-layers or strips Will not be pressed sufficiently and evenly atall points of the Window-panes to be cleaned, because first of all the Windowpanes are rarely entirely plane-parallel and secondly because said Window-panes are bent and moved in consequence ot the constantmovenient of the vehicle-body and the Window-frame; consequently there will always be bent and uneven parts on the Windows Where the metal layers or strips can not contact With so as to remove the hard crusts of ice or the like.
The wiping-device according to the present invention has the object of overcoming these disadvantages and is enabled to remove said hard crusts of ice, snow or the like at every point oi" the panes or Windowscreens or glasses touched by the Wipers. For obtaining this result the wiping-device consists in the combination of single teeth,
' set-or placed loosely adjacent one another,
with means for receiving and holding to'- gether said teeth forming the ice-remover and with means for forming a yielding beariifor the single teeth.
In consequence of this elastic bearing said teeth are'narrow and able to conform to every unevenness of the Window-pane and thus remove With certainty any ice-crusts or other hard layers sticking tol theY Window including uneven parts Vof the pane.

As can be seen from Fig. l, there are arranged on both lsides of the Window-pane g, tofbe cleaned of ice or tl e like crusts, the channel bars a of the wiping bodies and liXed to levers a which move the Wipers to and fro over the Window-pane g.- For the purpose of moving said levers to and fro on the WindoW-paneg they are set-on two spindles passing into each other and having curved handles o, o1, the latter being so ar-l ranged that the inner handle can be moved Within the outer. Either by catching hold of both handles or only one of them, both channel bars a or only the one. or the other of the channel bars is brought onto the glass-paneg, the cleaning of Which onboth sides or only on one side is eiiiected bymeans of alternately turning either both handleso, o1 or only one of them towards right and left. The rubber wiper c inserted into the other halt ot the channel bar and preferably having a round top end is set into a U-shaped metal strip e' bent so as to form a receptacle and is held within the latter by means of the bolts On the outer side ot the metal-strip e' towards its bottom there are fixed the springs la (Fig. 3) which repose on the bottom of the channel bar t and press the metal receptacle z' together with the rubber-wiper c towards the window-pane g and onto the same. For the purpose of tixing the metal receptacle i' to the channel bar a there ar-e, as will be seen by Fig. et, provided on said receptacle t' guiding bolts which extend through the bottom of the channel bar a and are kept in position by the cross-bolts m.
With a modified form of construction according to Fig. 4a, the teeth are arranged in alternate opposing relation to each other and they are not guided when moved by n-oses e in longitudinal grooves bl *formed in the separation-wall b as in Fig. L b'ut each tooth il is provided on kits part insert-ed into the receptacle z' with a longitudinal slot h. Through these longitudinal slots a bar lor wire Z riveted to the side-walls ot' the receptacle z' is passed, by means ot which the teeth are held togther when moved.
The bottom ends of the teeth Z being for example of a round shape also repose on a rubber-lay-er For the purpose of removing `from the window-pane a slight deposit ot condensed moisture or rain-drops a slight pressure ot one or both rubber-wipers 0 against one or both sides ot the window-pane g is sufiieient and on turning the handles 'of the cleaning apparatus towards right and lett one or both wipers will then softly slid-e over one side or both sides ot the windowpane. 'It however the window-panes are covered with a hard crust, sayotl ice or i'rozen snow, iirst of all the rubber-wipers c will be iorced under pressure against the window-panes; on using a still stronger pressure these ledges c will recede against the action of th-e springs 7c so that they get into line with the free ends ot the teeth Z in such a manner that the teeth d with their sharp edges come into action and remove with certainty, on moving the channel bars al to the right and lett, by means ot the stronger pressure, the frozen snow or icecrusts Yl'roin the window-panes.
To avoid injuring the window-panes on iii-ing a strongul pressure the teeth CZ are, in
consequence oit the reposal of their pointed or rounded ends on the rubber-layer 7"', enabled to penetrate into the latter and thus recede from the window-panes when a high pressure is exerted, the teeth Z at the same time being either guided by the noses e protruding from their sides, in the groove b1 oi: the separation-wall o (Fig. 4') yor by means oi the longitudinal slots it and the bar or wire Z (Fig. lla).
lWhen the strong pressure or the teeth stops the latter vagain return by the counterpressure of the rubber-layer into their original position such as is also the case with the rubber-'wiper ot the springs 7c.

In a wiping-device for cleaning vehicular window-panes arranged on vehicles of any kind, the combination with teeth placed in alinement 'for removing iee-crusts or the like from the pan-es, oia means for loosely receiving and holding together said teeth and means 'forming a yielding abutment for the base otl 'the teeth.
