My invention relates to an improvement in Scrapers, such, for example, as are used in connection with road machines and snow ploivs.
Heretofore, as is well known, scrapers have consisted of a two-part structure comprising a mold board, along the lower' edge of which is removably secured a blade. The mold board is usually of substantial height in order to handle the material scraped by the blade and, constructed from metal, is of considerable weight.` The mold board is st-iff'ened partially by the fact'that it is curved from the top to the bottom and is braced by means of braces and with longitudinal angles secured on its rear face. Such structures have proven to be eflicient, but the weight o-f such moldboards is a disadvantage, it being necessary to use substantially heavy metal in order to obtain the requisite stiffness. t
Now in accordance with my invention I provide a scraper so constructed as to provide a maximum of stiffness, with a minimum of bracing, and with the use of a minimum Weight of metal.
Having now indicated, in a general way, the nature and purpose of my invention, I will proceed to a detailed description thereof, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which there has been illustrated a preferred embodiment. and in which- Fig. l is a front elevation of a scraper embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view on line 2-2 Fig. 1.

The board b comprises a body portion curved from top to bottom to form a. concave working face and bent backwardly at the top and bottom to form flanges c and c.
Z represents a bracing member formed from angle iron to conform to the convex rear face of the board and of a length to engage the fianges c and cat the top and bottom of the board. The members Z are secured to the board by means of rivets e.
f represents supports or hangers for the mold board, secured to the board by rivets and having their lower ends curved to conform to the curve of the board and engaging Serial No. 38;(166.

The upper ends of the members f are provided with holes i for attachment in the usual manner to a road machine and they are provided with a series of holes g for adjustment of the bo-ard. The upper ends of the members f are secured to the board by means of braces 7L which are secured to the board and supports by rivets and bear against the upper flange c. The supports ,f thus act as supports or hangers and also as braces.
It will now be observed that by'virtue. of the provision of the fianges o and e the mold board is inherently stiffened and the engagement of the ends of the bracing member d and the bearing of the supports f with the lianges makes the board and braces a unitary structure, thus increasing t-he effect of the braces. As a result of my improved structure, the board may be made of lighter material than heretofore, thus effecting a saving in manufacture' cost, and will be found to be of greater durability and efficiency.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
l. A scraper comprising a curved mold board having a blade at its lower end, said board having a backwardly extending flange at its upper end, hangers having flanges at an angle to each other, one flange of each hanger being curved at its lower end and connected to the back of the mold board, the upper ends of the other flange of each hanger having means for suspending the scraper from a road machine, and a brace member connected to the upper portion of each of the first mentioned flanges of the hangers and the fiange of the mo-ld board.

A scraper comprising a curved mold board having a blade at its lower end, said board having a backwardly extending flange along the top thereof, an angle iron hanger at each end portion of the board, one flange of each hanger being curved at its lower end and secured to the back of thev board and forming a brace for the lower portion of the board, and a brace member between the upper portion ot each hanger and the board connected to the flange on the board and the said flange of the hanger, the other ange of each hanger having openings therein for the engagement of suspending means, and. a curved angle iron brace between the hangers having one of its flangesseoured to the back ot the board.
