FLOOR LAMP.

Application filed lebi nary Uur present invention pertains to floor lamps, and contemplates the provision of a peculiar and advantageous floor lamp possessed of the practical advantages hereinafter ascribed to it.

The invention consists as hereinafter described and claimed.

Figure 1 is a side elevation. of the floor lamp constituting the best practical embodiment of our iin'ention of which we are toguizcant.

Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary inverted plan view illustrative of the manner in which the feet of the lump are joined to the center colunm.

Figure 3 is an inverted plan view showing the lamp base and the weight disposed in and carried by said base with a view to lend ing increased stability to the lamp.

Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.

Among other elements our novel lamp comprises a center column or upright 1, preferably of the shape in cross-section illustrated in Figures 1 and 2. The said center column .1 is tapered upwardly, and is designed to be equipped at its upper end with an appropriate electric light fixture and shade as shown by full lines and dotted lines in Figure 1. At its lower end the center column 1 is mortised, as designated by 2 in Figure 2 for the reception of the tongue-like end 3 of feet t; the feet being preferably of ornamental ronfigu 'ation and the tongue 3 of the feet being connected to the center column 1 through the medium of wood screws 5. An ornamental cap 6, Figures 1 and 3. is connected by screws 7 to the lower end of the center column 1 for the purpose of adding to the finish of the lamp by covering the joints between the feet 4 and the center column 1.

As will be understood from Figure 1 the feet 4 are superposed upon a base 8, the feet being preferably fastenedto the base by countersunk screws. The base 8 is of open form, and preferably, though not necessarily, of octagonal configuration, Figure 3. and in the underside of the base is provided a chamin the improvement 26, 1928. her 9 for the reception of weights 10 which are connected to the base, preferably through the medium of wood screws 11, and are designed to lend increased weight to the base so as to contribute to the stability of the lamp and in that way avert casual tippingof the lamp, and this without interfering in appreciable measure with the facility with which the lamp may be moved from one point in a room to another.

In accordance with one part of our invention we prefer to equip the center column 1 with a table, designated by 12. and shown in Figure 1. The said table has a center aperture to permit of the same being slipped downwardly on the center post or column 1 and so that the table 12 will come to a rest at a predetermined height above the floor. when positioned as indicatech the table 12 is fixed with respect to the center column 1 through the medium of braces 13, grouped about the center column 1 and fastened to the underside of the table 12 and also fas tened to the column 1 through the medium of wood screws.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that a floor lamp characterized as stated is. at once, simple, strong, and ornamental in appearance; also that by virtue of the construction described the lamp is susceptible of easy and inexpensive production, and is adapted to be stored or shipped in knoclc down state and to be assembled or fabricated into a complete lamp with facility and without the employment of skilled labor or tools other than an ordinary screw driver.

While we prefer the construction as illustrated and specifically described. we do not desire to be understood as limiting ourselves to the precise construction and arrangen'ient of elements as disclosed, our invention being defined by our appended claim within the scope of which modifications in structure and in arrangement may be made without departure from our invention.
