IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE-BOW RESTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,189, dated March 23, 1875; application filed J annary 30, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. YEAGER, of Lawrence, Douglas county, Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Carriage and Buggy Bow-Rest, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is tocontrive a rest for the back bow of a carriage and buggy top, that will support it farther back than the ordinary rest, and also prevent it from lateral play, and which will not form an objectionable projection beyond the back of the seat when the buggy-top is raised up.
The invention consists of an arm fixed on the pivot of the bow-prop, so as to besnpported thereby when projecting back horizontally, and having at the rear end a groove or notch into which the back bow falls near the top, so as to be supported and at the same time sus tained against lateral play.
The arm is made capable of swinging upon the pivot toacertain extent, and it is connected to the bow by links so as to swing up with it, to avoid projecting backward when the top is up, and it is provided with lugs on its hub, to be held by a stop on the pivot in the horizontal position, and in the vertical position also;
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a buggy-top with my improved bow-rest, the top being raised. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the rest and the links connecting it to the bow, the rest being lowered into the position for supporting the bow; and Fig. 3 is a top view of Fig. 1.

Shoulder I holds it in a horizontal position, and J holds it when raised up against swinging too far forward. It also serves to take the forward pull on the top 'by the brace L otf the cover-curtains.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with prop-bolt G and backbow F, of the arm A and links G H, the said arm having a hub, B, with shoulders I J and stop K, as and for the purpose specified.
