UNITED STATES ALPHONSO M. HYDE, OF WEST HAVEN,
HAVEN BUCKLE 00.,
CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE WEST OF WEST HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATIQN BUCKLE.
Application filed June 8,
Fig. l is a face View of a buckle constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 1S a sectional view on the hue 2-2 of Fig. 1, with a web shown in the gripped Fig. 3 is a face view of a slide buckle formed from wire with a straight lower bar;
Fig. 4 is a front view of a buckle-frame embodying my invention and formed from sheet-metal; and
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 55 of Fig. 4.
This invention relates to an improvement in. buckles and particularly to buckles of the i type, that is, a buckle consisting of a rectangular frame with a transverse bar movable toward andfrom the upper and lower bars of the frame. The ob ject of this invention is to so form the lower bar of the frame that the sliding bar may move downward in rear of it, whereby the web is more firmly gripped, and the invention consists in the construction as herein after described and particularly recited in the claim.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a rectangular frame comprising side-bars l0 and 11, top-bar l2, and lower bar 13. This frame is preferably formed from wire and in the form shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings the lower bar is first formed with a plurality of bends and thenflattened and slightly set forward of the sidebars of the frame. The sliding bar 14 is formed at its lower edge with a lip 15 and deflected rearward, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. In use, a strip 15 of webbing is passed over the cross-bar let and downward in rear of the lower 1926. Serial No. 114,391.
In Fig. 3 of the drawings, Ivhave shown a similar buckle, except that the lower bar is not twisted so as to provide a straight upper edge 17, the operation of the device eing the same as above described, and 59 instead of forming the frame from wire, it may be formed from sheet-metal, as shown in F' in which the an upwardlyand-outwardly turned lip 19, and in this 55 case a slot is formed at the top of the frame to form a suspending loop.
In all cases, the web is firmly gripped by being clamped between the depending lip on the cross-bar and the upper edge of the lower bar of the frame.
claim:
A slide buckle, comprising a frame made from wire and having top, side, and bottom bars, the bottom-bar formed with a plurality of bends and flattened and forwardly-offset from the plane of the side-bars of the frame, and a cross-bar sliding on the sidebars of the frame and formed with a downwardly extending lip adapted to extend in rear of the upper edge of the lip on the bottom-bar of the frame.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
ALPHQNSO M. HYDE.
