Description

Fatenteel Her; 14, 1926.
i ll i a t... a g
TILE Mom).
Application filed August 24, 1925. Serial No. 52,009.
This invention relates to improvements in root construct-ion, particularly to interlocking slabs or tiles, and the manufacture thereof. I
It is the principal object of the invention to provide a mold for the manufacture of such interlocking roof tiles from cement, sand and water mixed in suitable proportions.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a mold of simple, yet durable construction for making the tile sections forming the roof by simple operation in an inexpensive manner.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a mold allowing a ready removal of the finished slab or tile.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically defined in the appended claims.
in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a pair of interlocking roof tiles or slabs constructed according to the present invention.
2 is a top plan view of a mold for making my improved roof tiles or slabs.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional side elevation of the mold.
Fig. 4 is a section on line ll of Figure 2.
Fig. 5 shows a modified form of operating member for the mold.
The roofing tiles or slabs constructed according to the present invention comprise a base or body having a plurality of lower ribs 11 preferably rounded, formed therewith, while on their upper faces are termed a plurality of raised elements or members 12.
The body of the slab beneath the end element 12 is undercut, as at 13, to overlap the end element 14k of the adjoining tile.
In the Figure 2, 3 and d a mold for making the tiles or slabs according to the invention is illustrated, consisting of a box 15 covered by a removable top 16, and a core 17 arranged. within the mold.
The cover and the core being formed with suitable, alternating ribs or depressions oi? the shape which the finished tile is supposed to have to form. the elements 12 and ribs 11.
The ends of the material for forming the tiles are engaged by a transverse board or plate 18 or the like, having to its outer face attached in any suitable manner a boss or socket 19 adapted to receive and hold the enlarged end 20 out a threaded bar 21 extending beyond the end wall or" the mold and carrying on its extreme outer end an operating hand wheel 22.
In the Figure 5 a modified operating member 18 for the mold is shown according to which the end bar 23 is pivotally attached, at 24, to the boss 25, and member has a slot termed therein in which a movable plate 26 is arranged, adapted to be entered or removed into and from the slot by means of a suitable tool so as to permit of changing said plate 26, to plates of difierent widths, to coact with a change of cover 16, to covers of different thicknesses, thereby allowing molding tiles of dilierent thicknesses to be molded.
The operation of my device will be entirely clear from the above description and it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the general construction and ot t e minor details as fall within the scope of the appended claims without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what i I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is:
1. The combination, in a mold for making roof tiles or slabs, of an operating member provided with a slot, removably engaging a plate, and pivotally connected to a socket, receiving the enlarged end of a threaded bar, threadedly extending through the end wall of said mold, and carrying on its extreme outer end an operating hand wheel, whereby pressure may be exerted against the molding material irrespective of its width.
2. The combination, in a mold for making roof tiles or slabs, of an operating member provided with a slot, removably engaging a plate, and pivotally connected to a socket by means of a pintle pin, said socket receiving the enlarged end of a threaded bar, threadcdly extending through the end wall of said mold, and carrying on it its extreme outer end an operating hand wheel, whereby pres sure may be exerted against the i'nolding material irrespective of its width.
3. A. mold for making root tiles or slabs,
comprising a box for the reception of the and a hand operated Wheel, a shaft for said tile forming material, a means for forming Wheel, for exerting pressure on the tile the ribs and depressions on both sides of an forming material upon the operation by said interlocking tile or slab in said box, a piv- Wheel and shaft.
oted operating member, a slot in said oper- In testimony whereof I have afiixed my ating member, a slide adapted to be inserted signature.
into and removed from said slot by a tool, I JOHN SARNA.
