FLOAT-OPERATED CIRCUIT CLOSER FOR OIL-LEVEL ALARM DEVICES.
Application filed May 28, 1925.
The present invention relates to an oil level. alarm device, and has for its principal object to provide a device of this nature which will maintain a closed circuit so as to keep an electric light lit when the oil is above a certain predetermined level, but when the oil recedes below this levehthe circuit will be broken and the light will go out, thereby indicating that the oil in the crank case should be replenished.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which i exceediugh, simple in its construction, one which is thoroughly reliable and eflicient in use, and otherwise well adapted for the purpose tor which it is designed.

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that l designates a crank case which is provided with the usual threaded opening 2 wherein usually engaged a pet cocli. iiovice. however, is provided with a threaded nipple 3 whicn engages in this L. The reservoir -1- of the device is o the nipple being preferably I iten'ral therewith and is provided with a threaded opening 5 for receiving the pet cock 6 which was taken from the opening 2, another smaller pet cock, so that the oil uia be drained if desired.

It will therefore be'ceen that when the oil is above the level. of the reservoir i the float will be in a. raised position and the contact 12 will be in engagement with the contact 13 to maintain the circuit just lescribed closed, whereby the incandescent bulb 17 will be lighted. Should the oil in the crank case 1 recede below the level just indicated, the float 11 will recede in the reservoir 4:, thereby separating the contact 1 from the contact 13 so as to break the circuit and the incandescent bulb will theretorc go out. It will then be time to replenish the oil in the crank case.
It is thought that the construction, operation, and utility of the device will now be clearly understood without a more detailed description thereof. It is apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be .rted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the inve; inatter claimed or sacrificing any of its advant Haw ing thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
A float perateu circuit closer including, in coniliiination, a reservoir having its upper end open, nieans projecting laterally from the bottom portion of the reservoir for cornmunicating said reservoir with a crank case, a closure for the upper end of the reservoir inchid'ng a stem extending through an aperture in the bottom of the reservoir, a nut engaged with the lower end of the stern and abutt 1e outside of the bottom of the res ervoir r r holci the closure on the reservoir, a float in the reservoir of ring construe tion disposed ab ut the stem to be guided thereby, contact on the float, a second con tact on the closure for engagement with the first contact.
