J. HOJNOWSKI METAL RAILROAD TIE Filed July 17, 1925 awuqwt 'i Patented Dec. 7, 1926.
NETED STATES PATENT o JAKOB HOJNOWSKI, OI INEKOOSA, WISCONSIN.
METAL RAILROAD TIE.
Application filed July 17, 1925. Serial No. 44,237.
expensive, yet eflicient construction, firmly I supporting the rails thereonsecured against displacement in any direction.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a tie having an extension secured thereto adapted to support a switch post, or the like.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will.
then be more specifically defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a 25 materialpart of this disclosure: I
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a tie constructed according to the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan View of a pair of ties constructed according to the present invention and their rail fastening means.
Fig. 3 is an end view of the tie, partly in a section 011 line 38 of Figure 1. v
Fig. 4 is a sectional end elevation of the tie-extension for supporting a switch post, or the like.
The metal tie is composed of a frame 10, having a pair of side bars connected on top by a top plate 11 provided with a plurality of strengthening ribs 12.
The ends of the frame constituting the'tie are closed by suitable brackets 18, the angular flanges of which are secured to the lateral faces of the tie by means of bolts and nuts 14.
The rails 15of a track are attached to the tie by means of plates 16 having at one end an abutment 17 for engaging the foot flange of the rail by means of bolts 17, while plates 18 having a horizontally disposed flange are attached by bolts 19 passed through this flange and carrying nuts to the top plate of the tie.
These plates 18 have their inner ends inclined upwardly, bent in a peculiar straight and downwardly V manner as shown at 20 in 5 Figure 1, to engage with their downwardly. bent'parts the outside of the rail webs. v
The rails are further secured to the ties by means of vertical bolts 21 hearing large nuts 22 engaging the inner foot flanges of the rails. 7
As shown in Figure 4, to the outside of the frame 10, of the tie at the end thereof,
brackets 23 and 24 are attached, secured to the frame by nut bolts 25, which carry upon their upper arms, an extension 26 attached to said arms by means of nut bolts 27, or the like. This platform is adapted tocarry a switchpost 28, or the like attached thereto in any suitable manner, and arranged at the end of the tie.
It will be understood that I have shown and described the preferred form of my inventlon as an example only, and that such changes maybe made in its construction, as
fall within the scope of the appended claims,
; without departure from the spirit of the invention and the principle involved.
Having thus described my mvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
A rail fastening for metal railroad ties comprising pairwise arranged rail fastening ments, and
a means for securing the parts in their assembled positions.
Signed at Nekoosa in the county of Wood and State of Wisconsin this 10th day of July JAKOB HOJNOWSKI.
