IMPROVEMENT lN OATS-SCREENS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,999, dated March23, 1875 application filed November 19, 1874.
' Fig. 3 the perforated metal plate used in my sieve; Fig. 4, a transverse section of my sieve, with the strips attached above it.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I first provide a wooden frame, consisting of three sides only. To the under side of this frame I attach a perforated metal plate, of the form indicated in Fig. 3, or the common wire-sieve now in use. On the top of this frame I fasten, at proper distances from each other, metal strips, of the form as shown in Fig. 2, and in the manner as shown by letter A in Fig. 1. The object of the metal strips is to intercept the oats that are mixed in the wheat when it falls from thehopper, and turn them upon their sides, so that when they fall on the sieve beneath they will strike sidewise and be blown off the sieve by the fan, the holes in the plate being large enough to allow the wheat to fall through, but not large enough to allow the oats to fall through sidewise.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The inclined metal strip A, secured to frame 0 of sieve B ashort distance above said sieve, to prevent oats from escaping through, as set forth.
JASPER N. BELL.
