WIATER-PUMPING DEVICE FOR OIL-GAS WELLS.
Application led January 18. 1923, Serial No. 613,543. Renewed Hay 1926.
Ihis invention relates to gas wells, and has special reference to a water pumping device for oil gas wells.
One object of the invention is to .provide an improved and simple device for removing water from gas wells which can be readi-ly manufactured at low cost and which may be inexpensively installed Aand operated.
tails of construction `and combinations of l parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed. A
In the accompanying drawings like characters 'of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and: V
Fig. 1 is .a section through a gas well showmg the device in position therein.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail vertical sec,- tion through the device. i
In the embodiment of the invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawm it will be seen that there is shown a drillxsd` gas well 10, having the upper part provided with the usual casing 11, which projects slightly above the-ground line 12, and is capped as at 13. T-he invention itself comprises a length of pipe or tubing 14 which prefer to ave of one-half inchpipe. On
the outer end of this length of one-half inch' pipe is tteda reducing coupling 15 by means of which the pipe 14 may be connected to a. string of three-quarter inch piping 16 projecting upward through the cap13. The pipe 14, which I preferably term the .jet barrel, is capped at its lower end with a sleeve 17 screwed thereonthis sleeve being closed below and provided with lateral perforations or openings 18. The closureat the bottom of the end of the sleeve ips. provided with a 4screw threaded opening,.and in this screw threaded opening is screwed a jetnozzle. 19 which, by means of its threaded connection with the cap 17, may have its upper or outlet end 20 positioned infdesired relationv tothe openings 118. This jet nozzle 19 is connected by the elbows 21 and nipple 22 with a gas intake pipe' 23 which extends fvided with lateral per for enough up the well to be above the high water. line 24, in the bottom of said well. Thls pipel 23 is capped at its upper end to prevent anything fallin therein, and is proorations 25 for the admission of gas.
In operation the device is inserted in the well in the position shown in Figure 1 so that gas under pressure in the well may enter the perforations 25 and flow out through the nozzle tip 20. This gas will thus act as al motive Huid of an ejector, the effect being to first blow out the water standing in the pipes 14 and 16,l and then to draw any water through the perforations`18 by reason of the barrel vacuum created just below the tip of thev nozzle 19. It will be observed that diferent conditions in different wells require diiferent distances to be maintained between i the tip 20and the perforations 18, and to this end the nozzle 19 may be adjusted-to 'btain the maximum effect b same in or out of the collar 1;.
'There has thus been provided a simple and elicient device of the character described,l and for the 'purpose specified.
' It is obvious -that minor changes maybe -made in the form and construction of the invention without de arting fromk the material spirit thereof. t is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact lforni herein shown and described, but it is desired to include all such as properly come withinthe scope claimed. f
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as'new', is:
1. In a device of barrel, a cap screwed at the lower end of said barrel, the bottom of said cap being provided with a centrally disposed screw threaded opening and the side` wall of said cap being provided with a seriesof radiallyv extendlng vperforations, a -jet nozzle threaded in theopening in the bottom of the cap and adjusted longitudinally with respect to said the kin-dv described, a
screwing the y cap 'by rotation therein, and a supply pipe connected to said nozzle andextendin up along the side of the barrel suiciently igh to reach the gas spacel of the well above the high water line. p
2. In a device of the kind described,` a barrel, a cap screwed at the lower end of said barrel, the bottom of saidv cap being provided with a centrally disposed screw threaded opening and theside wallof said Cup being provided with u series of radially extending perforations, :L )et nozzle threaded in the opening in the bottom oi the cap and adjusted longitudinally with respect to said cap by rotation therein` and :i supply pipe connected to said nozzle and extending up along the side of the barrel sufficiently high to reach the gasfspaee of the well above the high water line, said supply pipe having its uppel` end cappedand being provided with 10 lateral perforatons adjacent said-upper end.
In testimony whereof I axmy signature.
WILLIAM o. RUSSELL.
