NECK'IIE Application filed June 15,
This invention relates to a necktie holder, one of the objects being to provide a light, .simple and compact device which is cheap to manufacture and which, when combined with a bow tie or the like will hold it in proper position relative to a collar.
A further object is to provide a holder which can be readily applied and removed and which will not become displaced accidentally.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings, 7
Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the holder, a portion of the collar to which it is applied being broken away and the tie being shown by broken lines. I
Figure 2 is a front elevation.
Figure 3 is a section on line 33, Fig ure 2.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates an elongated transversely extending loop formed by the mid- -dle portion of a spring wire, there being members 2 extending rearwardly from the center of theback of the loop and constituting the neck of the holder. These members merge into downwardly extending oppositely disposed bowed portions 3 cooperating to constitute jaws for gripping the collar button. From the lower ends of the members 3 are extended diverging arms 4 having intermediate oifset portions 5 and having their HOLDER.
1926. Serial No. 116,177.
free ends bent back to provide blunt terminals 6. I
In using the holder the loop 1 is inserted into the knot of a tie T where it is fas tened by sewing. At the point where the members 8 merge into the arms 4: the wire is rounded as shown at 6 so as to provide a throat into which the shank of a collar button 13 can be inserted. Thus after the tie has been secured to loop 1 the members 4 are snapped downwardly onto the shank of a collar button until said shank becomes seated between the bowed portion. The arms 4 are distorted or strung so as-to fit snugly within the fold of the collar C and thus the tie will be held properly supported in front of the center of the collar.
The entire device is very simple and compact and is advantageous because of the ease with which it can be applied and removed. Furthermoreit is useful because the resilient arms 4 serve to support the front portion of the collar by reason of the fact that the oflset portions 5 rest flat upon the inner or neck-band portion of the collar.
vVhat is claimed is:
A device of the class described formed in a single length of spring wire bent to provide an elongated loop at the center thereof with rearwa-rdly extending portions cooperating to provide a neck, said portions merging into opposed bowed portions constituting button engaging jaws, and diverging arms extending from the bowed portion for insertion between the folds of a collar, each of said arms including an intermediate offset portion, the loop constituting means for insertion into and attachment to the knot of a tie.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature.
LUTHER MERRILL.
