Description

I. A. DELINE CANDY BOX Nov. 30 1926.
Filed August 1, 1925 Patented Nov. 30, 1926.
UNH'ED STATES IRVING A. DELINE, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
CANDY BOX.
Application filed August 1, 1925.
This invention relates to candy boxes and has for its principal object the provision of a candy box which will protect the contents from crushing.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide an air chamber in a box of this character which will completely surround the contents and act as a protection from temperature injury.
Still another object is to provide a novel and eflicient construction for accomplishing the above objects.
Other objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy, and efficiency. These will become more ap parent from the following description.
In the following detailed description of the invention reference is had to the accom- 20 panying drawing which forms a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawing and throughout the description.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective cross section through a candy box, embodying the features of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the cushion employed in the lid and bottom of the box.
In Fig. 1, the main box is illustrated at and is provided with a telescopic lid 11. The bottom of the box 10 may be flanged as shown at 12 and the lid provided with a similar flange. As illustrated, the lid is padded in the usual manner as shown at 13. As thus far described, the box is of the'usual construction found in containers of this character.
The invention is applied to the. box by )lacing a flanged sub-bottom 141 in the box.
his bottom is illustrated in detail in Fig. 2 and is provided with a flange 15, along its edges. The flange 15 is turned downward a ainst the bottom of the box 10 and is glued to the sides thereof, as indicated at 21, and serves to form an air chamber 16 entirely over the bottom of the box. A sublid 22, similar to the sub-bottom 14, is employed in the lid 11. In this case, the surrounding flanges are turned upward and glued to the sides of the lid at 20. They Serial No. 47,587.
fit against the lid and serve to form an air chamber 17 entirely under the lid 11.
Spaced from the sub-bottom 14c is an in ternal box 18, the sides of which contact with the sub-lid 22 and which are spaced from each of the sides of the box 10, thus forming an air passage 19 which entirely surrounds the internal box 18. The sub-lid is glued to the lid edges at the point 20; sub-bottom; 14 is glued to the box along the flange 15, as indicated at 21, and the interior box 18 is glued to the sub-bottom 14: thus forming a substantial construction.
It will be seen that the interior box 18, in which the candy is placed, is entirely surrounded by an air space which serves to insulate the contents from damage by changes in temperature, and is particularly valuable in the hot summer months when the box is being carried in the sun. The air chambers serve another purpose, however, that is to protect the candy from mechanical damage. Should the box be crushed or dented, it will result only in forcing the outer walls into the air chambers without crushing or damaging the con tents.
While a specific form of the improvement has been described and illustrated herein, it is desired to be understood that the same may be varied, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim and desire secured by Letters Patent is The combination in a candy box of a container; a sub-bottom raised above the bottom of said container; an interior box having sides and a bottom, the bottom of said interior box being secured to said sub-bottom so as to maintain said sides spaced from the walls of said container, the upper edges of said interior box being in alignment with the upper edges of said container; a lid for said container and a sub-lid within said container said sub-lid being adapted to rest on said aligned upper edges.
In testimony whereof, I alfix my signature.
