This invention relates toy sectional beds. More particularly 'the present invention relates to the class of beds capable of being converted from the daybed or couch type"l to a double bed type. Beds of this class comprisea stationary section, and a section inovablewith respect to the stationary section, the latter having a bedding frame or spring mattress which is movable from a non-supporting position to. a supporting position when said movable section is extended in theobtainment of the double bedl tvpe.

. L Some .of the objects of the present invention are: to incorporate in a bed comprising a stationary section and a movable section mechanical means ,ormechanism for raising and lowering the bedding frame or spring mattress, which is v,thoroughly eicient and effectual for raising and lowering said bed'- ding frame or spring-'mattress, and which also serves for supporting said bedding frame or spring mattress in its raised position; to -provide anti-friction ldevices for facilitating the movement of themovable bed section, and to facilitate the raising and 'lovvlering of the bedding frame or spring mattress; an'd to provide connections between the stationary bed `section and the movable bed section to lend rigidity to the bed with the movable section thereof 'in either position.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the 'invention resides in the particulai: provision, relativedisposition and operation ot' the parts hereinafter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichl Figure 1 is an end elevation of a bed embodying the present invention, and lshowing the movable section extended.

Generally stated, the bed of the present invention comprises a movable section 10, a

stationary section 11 and supporting and shifting means 12 which serves and operates for a purpose todoe hereinafter 4explained.

The movable section 10 in the present instance includes a framestructure 13 comprising ends 14 having legs 15, side rails 16 which connects theends 14, and a. bedding support` or spring mattress 17 which is supported by the transverse rails 18 of the ends 14. The legs 15 at oneside of the section are each provided with a caster or roller 19, whereas, the legs 15 on the opposite side of.

It should now be understood that the movable section 10 may moved from a position over the stationary section 11 as shown in Fig. 6 to-a position beside thesection 11 as shown in Fig. 1 for instance.

The supporting and shifting means 12 serves to support the bedding support 27 and also serves for eieoting the raising and lowering of the saine.. The said means 12 in the present instance consists of and operates as presently described. '.lhe said actuator and support 36 is of U-shape to pr'ovide a central' portion received in the bearings 35and end members 37 which are disposed respectively adjacent vthe end rails 28. Each of the members 37 has a hand grip 38. Eachy of the depending tianges ot' each of the end rails 28 is provided with an elongated slot l 39 which respectively receive ins 40 carried by the members' 37, there eing a suitable nut 41 .on the end of each pin 40. Toggles in the form -o jointed supports or braces'42 are employed for aiding in holding the bedding support 27 in its raised position.

Each toggle 42 consists .of a plate 43 to' which are pivotally connected members '44 in turn pivotally connected to the transverse rails -28 and 26. Pivotally connected to each plate 43 is a push andpull rod 45, which rods 45'- are pivotally lconnected -respectively to the members 37, there being a spring 46, coimected to the `free end of each rod 45 as at 47 'and the opposite end of each spring is connected as at 48 to one of the uprights 22. 'A' rest 49 is connected to each of the rails28,= which, with theplates 43 serve to support the bedding support 27 when it is moved to its non-supporting position as shown in Fig. 4. lVhen it is desired to l move the bedding support 27 to a supporting position, either of the hand grips 38 is taken hold of and an upward pull is exerted on the member 37 which will impart upward movementto the en'd rails 28 by virtue of the pins 45. The end members 37 move with and with respect to the end rails 26 support the bedding support 27 in a supporting position; Any pressure or weight on the bedding support 27 will tend to keep the members 37 vertical and prevent the accidental 'lowering of said bedding supportl 27. When it is desired to lower the bedding s unport 27 the out of alignment condition oi the toggles 42 is upset, whereupon the actuator 36 may be moved pivotally to cause the lowering of the bedding support 27. It is to be understood that the raising and lowering of the bedding support 27 will be performed after the movable section 10 has been moved to an extended position, the
