RE GULATING IVEEAS'BNG VALVE.
Application iled April 27, 1925. Serial No. 26,31%.,
to be changed frequently it is-otten difficult.
to find the same posit-ion when readjusting the valve.
Onect the objects ot my invention is to provide such a valve with an indicating cap attaehedto the valve, which will permit veryfelose. adjustment of the valve, the cap being ot such construction that it may be applied to any standard valve with practically no change in the valve structure.
lVith the above and other objects in view, my invention relates to the parts, improvements and combinations more fully pointed out hereinafter: A
Referring now to the drawings:
Figure 1 is atront elevation partly in section, showing the valve with the measuring' cap attached.
Figure 2 is a iront elevation showing the measuring cap and the means for securing the pointer to the valve trame, or bonnet.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional detail view thru the cap and valve stem, on line 3 3 of Figure 2.
Figure t is a perspective view ot the cap when attached, and
Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view on line 5 5 of Figure 2, showingv two positions ttor the pointer clamp, one in ull lines and the other in dotted lines.
The valve 1, iits upon the valve seat 2, in the valve casing 3, ported at et and 5, tor the passage ot liquid or steam. It may have guiding projections 6 and is carried by the valve stem 7 which passes Iupwardly thru the frame or bonnet S, the valve stem being provided with a screw 9. Upon turning the screw by a hand wheel or wrench, the valve is raised and lowered, the screw engaging interior screw threads in the upper part et the trame or bonnet 3.
In accordance with my invention, a measn uring cap 10, is provided, which is preterably ot cylindrical form, and which may be rotatably adjustable. TheA measuring cap 10, is provided with means for attaching it to the screw stem. The cap has a head 11, and a. skirt 12, the head being provided with a central perforation 13, and a pair of depending lugs 14, l15. The Vperiioration and lugs can be slipped` over,y the upper part 1G, ot the valve stem and the cap can thus be removably secured to the stem. tcanbe locked to the valve stem by means of nut 1i" and loclrnut 18. 1n this way the measuring cap can be readily appliedto the usual tcm ot screw-down valve and rapidly Vremoved 1.
therefrom. it a hand wheel is used, Vit is mounted upon the valve stem in place et the nuts.
. rihe skirt ot the measuring cap is provided with a plurality otindicating vzones 19,
responds to one revolution et the valve stern and is divided into ten main parts, each nia in part being divided into tour smaller divisions, which number may oi course bey varied. The distaneepbetween two adjacent V Zones on the skirt oi the valve is equal to the pitch of the screw thread 9, on the valve stein so that each revolution of the valve will move a diii'erent zone on the shirt into registering relation with the pointer 20.
Means are provide-d for securing the pointer in a fix-ed position and in registering relation to the valve cap. The pointer may be screwed or riveted upon the valve casing or Jtraine. In the term et the invention illustrated, I malte use ot' a clamping braclret for securing the pointer in place. The torni of clamp may be varied. As illustrated, the clamp comprises two arms 21, 22, to one ot which the pointer is secured. Clamping bolts 23, apply the clamping pressure. The
Having thus Adescribed tie invention, its
operation will be clear. 1t will be apparent that changes may be made in carrying the itt) ing provided with a perforated head to iit` said stem, a pointer cooperating With said cap and mea-ns for securing'said pointer to the valve traine.
. 2. A rotatably adjustable measuring screwi down valve in combination with the valveseat, stem and operating screw, ci a removable and adjustable indicating cap provided with a skirt portion, said skirt portion carrying a plurality of indicating zones arranged along the skirt portion, each zone indicating one revolution'oi' thel skirt por# tion, means i'or securingsaid cap to said screwv so as to tnrnwith it, a pointer `cooperating with said cap and a rotatably adjustable clamp carrying said pointer, for securing said pointer to the valve trame in registering relation to the indicator cap.`
3. A measuring Vscrew-down valve in coinbination with the valve seat, stem and 0perating screw, or' an indicating cap p`r0- vided with a skirt portion, said skirt portion carrying a plurality of indicating zones arranged along said skirt portion, the distance between the adjacent zon-es being equal to the pitch of the screw, means for securing said cap to said screw stein so as to turn vv'ith it, and a pointer cooperating with said indicating cap.`
4:. A measuring screw-down valve in co1nbination with the valve seat, stein and-operating screw, of aV removable indicating cap having a. central, perforation and one or more depending lugs adapted to embrace the valve stem, said cap provided with a `skirt portion, said shirt portion carrying `a plurality of indicating zones arranged along said skirt portion, eaclrzone indicating one revolution of the skirt portion means tor securing said cap to said screw stein so as to turn with it, a pointer for cooperating with said cap and means for securing said pointer to the valve traine.
5. An indicator for screw-down valves `coi'nprising a valve position indicating cap provided with a head and skirt, the head being perioratedsoas to engage and turn with the valve screuT and the skirt carrying ase ries oi revolution indicators, arranged sidoV by side, lengthwise of the skirt, each one oisaid indicatorsl giving the portion of a revolution the valve stem has been turned, the series o'l `indicators giving thefnumber oit complete revolutions et the valve stem.
In testimony whereof, I have signedV any naineto this speciiieation` nono von infra`
