PATENT ()FFl-CE.
FREDERICK EI-IBSAM, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
WINDOW-SQREEN VENTILATOR.
Application filed March 18,1926. Serial No. 95,561.
This invention relates to improvements in window screen ventilators, and the object in the present instance is to provide a window ventilator in which the air passing into the building through the ventilator, will be screened, and one in which the volume of air passing through the screen may easily be regulated and determined.
A further object is to provide a device of the character described, in which the free entrance of light will be attained at ali times.
The invention is more fully described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which z- Figure 1 is a front elevational view showing my device in position in a window frame.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22, Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a partial plan view, with the screen broken away to show the closure slats.
The numeral 1 designates a window frame and 2 the movable sash. 3 is a triangular bracket, provided with elongated slots 1, and adapted to be secured to the vertical walls of the frame by means of screws 5. These brackets are formed with ledges 6 in which is placed a plate of glass or other transparent body, and the numeral 8 designates a spring contacting member, formed by bending up a portion of the lower edge of the bracket, and this spring will bear against the glass and hold it in position.
The numeral 10 designates the screen, which comprises a frame provided with a suitable mesh member 11, and this frame rests upon the brackets 3, one of which latter is secured to each vertical wall of the window frame. Attached to the frame, and located beneath the screen member, I provide a closure in the form of a series of parallel slats 15, joined together by a link 16 and pro vided with a suitable actuating lever 17,
through the medium of which the said series of slats may be actuated in unison, to open or close the air space leading to and through the screen member.
When the device is in position in a window frame, as shown in Figure 2, the window sash is raised until the lower member of the sash is behind the screen frame. The screen closure is opened or closed at will, and, when open, the air will pass into the room through the window aperture, strike the transparency and be directed upwardly through the screen, thus avoiding direct drafts, screening the air against insects or other particles, and permit-thorough ventilation withoutthe accompanying annoyance of dust and insects, while at the same time,
the transparent member will permit free access of light into the room.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is y In a window screen ventilator, the com bination of a.pair of triangular brackets, each of which is formed with an elongated slot and a ledge, means cooperating with said slot for securing the brackets to the vertical walls of a window frame, a frame resting upon said brackets, said frame having a wire mesh screen forming a part thereof, a plate of glass engaging the ledges on the said brackets and held in position by the brackets, curved, spring'contact members, formed by the lower ends of the brackets and adapted to bear against said plate of glass, and a closure member for the screen comprising a plurality of parallel slats, a link joining said slats together at their ends, and a lever attached to said link for opening and closing said slats in unison.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FREDERICK EHRSAM.
