WIBE-FEEDING MECHANISM.
pacity of the mechanism, to Which the Wire is fed, is materially increased.
A further object is'to provide an interinittent feeding` Vmechanism Which Will not var-y the length of Wire fed during eachoperati n.
`'i7ith the above and other objects in VieW, 'which W111 appear as the description proeeeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of pz'ar'ts, substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined by the appended claims, it being` understood that such changes in the preciseembodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come Within the scope. of the claims. I v
in the accompanying draWing is illustrated one complete example of the physif cal embodiment of the present invention constrncted according to the best mode so far devised for the practical applicationof the principles thereof.
lFignre 1 is a longitndinal sectional view 'through a mechanism constructed in accordance With one form of the present invention, the same being taken on the lines 1-1 of Firefnres 2 and 3. i i
Figure" 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 24-2 of Figure 1, and
Eigure 3 is a plan section taken on the line 3-3 of Figur 1. i
That form of the present invention illustrated in the draWings is designed for use in connection With a hairpin forming machine, in Which a table 1 is utilized, the same being` provided With an aperture 2 for the feeding mechanism about to be described.
Secured upon the table 1 adja'oent the aperture 2 are a pair of brackets 3 and 4, the major portion of which extend above the table, While an arm 5 project-s through the aperture and below the table 1 to serve 9,1925. Serial No. 61,469.
as a bearing for the mechanism carried by the brackets. The braclet 1 is provided Wit-ha base 6 Which is rigidly secnred tothe top of the table by means. of the bolt 7 While the bracket 3 is pivotally monntedupon the Stud 8 carried by the table.
Both brackets are provided With a pair of vertical arms 9 in W iich are forined bearings for the reception of the longitudinal horizontal shafts 10, having:r secured to one end the spur gears 11 Which mesh With the gearV 12 carried by the main driven shafts 13 of a hairpin machine, Which shaft is mounted above the brackets 3 and and extends throughout the entire length of the machine for actuating the various forming mechanis-ms, not shoWn The brackets 3 and stare provided With lateral extensions 1d Which cooperatc With the arms 5 to form suitable bearings for the Vertical shafts 15 Which are Qjeared to the driven shafts byimeans ot. the beveled pinions 16 arranged to rotate each. of the shafts in oppositecdirections.
Seoured on the shafts 15 adjacent the top of the table 1 are a pair of respective feeding. discs 17 and 18, the peripheral faces of Which cooperate With one anotherA for the purpose lof engaging the Wire 7 and intermittently feeding the same a predetermined length during each operation. In order to aecomplish this the pefipheral faces of both discsare provided With a plurality of annnlar grooves 19 of different size, for selective use in connection With various gauges of Wire.
, `lamping cngagement of the Wire between the faces of the discs 17 and 18 is maintained by means of a bolt 20, the ends of Which are secured to the latcral extensions 14 of the braclrets 3 andl, by means of nut-s 21 threaded on the bolts on opposite sides of the brackets.
Due to the fact that the bracket 11 is rigidly secured to thel table 1, While the bracket 8 is Vpivotally mounted thereon, it is obvious that their desiredV relative position can be maintained by running the nuts 21 in or out upon the bolt 20. By this arrangement considerable tension can be exerted upon the Wire gripped between the faces of the discs 17 and 18, thus insuring positive feed during the feeding operation ofthe discs. i
In order to obtain an intermittent feed essential in a hairpin forming machine Where squarely against the inner 01' bottom Wall of the said socket. The operator then uses a hammel', strkng the outef plug in the dil'ecton of the length of the axle whereby the Wheel is jarred loose from the a-Xle and the key thereo and may be quckly l'emoved.
Having descrbed the nventon What is clamed s-- A device adapted to be used for removng' a Wheel from an axle upon which t is keyed compl'isng a body provided at its opposite ends With alned sockets of different szes, and anvil plugs fittng in the sockets.
In testimony Whereof I atfix my signature.
