TRUss STRUCT'BE.
Application mea october s, 1924. serial No. masso.
An object of my invention is to provide a truss structure wherein the pad holder is removably mounted.
Another object isyto provide adevice 'of this kind which may be adapted to either lett or right side hernial application.
Another object is tok provide a truss which is convertible by a dealer or user to either left side or right side adaptation.
Another object is to provide a device of this kind which is capable of adjustment as to thepressure of the pad uponv the body of the wearer. Y
rl`hese Aand other objects'y areattained by the meansV described herein and disclosed in t the accompanying drawings7 in which:
t my invention, vparts being broken away.
: 2-2 of Fig. 1. i
Fig. 3 isa cross sectional view taken on upon suitable screws 29 are passed through the perforations 11 and 13 inthe-side'7'and Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a truss ot Fig. 2 is a crossvsectional View on line line 3-3 of Figl.
The truss of my .invention comprises 'a body band 5which may be a flat springsteel band adapted to pass partially about the Waist of the wearer. A suitable covering f means which may comprise strips of leather 6 and7 are secured together along their longitudinal edges and are adapted to extend beyond the end 8 of the spring 5 to provide a belt 9. The forward end of the spring 5 is provided with a pair of spaced threaded Aperforations 10 and the forward layer 7 of.
the belt 9 is provided with registering perforations 11.
plates 14' on the bar 12 is disposed' an enlarged shouldered block 17 provided on its one side with serrations or teeth '18. On
` i either side of( thev shouldered block 17 the Fao,
vbar 12 is developed into a substantially rounded portion 19 about which the curved arms20 of the pad holder plateV 21 are adapted to be turned so that the pad holder Y Vtheshouldered.block 17 between the curved Varms 20. A spring pawl 23 is secured at its one end'to the plate 21 by any suitablemeans such as rivet 24 and is adapted to. 1
60 the teeth 18on the shouldered block 17. A i
have its other end- 25 V'in engagement with suitable pad structure 26 is mounted upon i the plate 21on theside opposite the spring pawl 23 and the entire plate and ratchet -mechanismfis encased in the suitable cover member 27 which Amay be of leather orV any other suitable material. kA suitable protec-V,
tive cap 28 is adapted to be passed'overone of. the' ends'141ofthe bar 12 and to be held thereon by meansy of the button stud 16.y
The remaining plate portion 14 ot' the bar V12 is then inserted between the end lof the spring 5 andthe side 7 of the belt 9 wherevwhereby the pad holder structure is securely mounted upon the end of the spring 5.
The truss o my invention as shown in Fig. l'is adapted for exerting pressure upon The beltfand spring' portion are passed about the right side of the waist 'of the wearer'and securedin position by passingv the button stud 16 through'one of the perforations V in the belt 9 whereupon the pad 26 will extend downwardly and exert pres-y sure against the body of the wearer. It the pressure is insuiicient, the plate 21 is pressed toward the body of the wearer whereupon the said platewill revolve slightly about thev yrounded portions 2() of the barz12 until the endv 25 of the spring pawl 23 passes over one of the ratchet teeth 18 on the shouldered the righthand'side of the body ot awearer. i Y
block 17. The end 25 of the yspring pawl 28 engaging the side of one of thej teeth 18 precludes the return of the padholder and in .i
adjusted pressuresl may ,ber
vided a truss structure which does not reV quire special parts for the opposite sides o" thewbody and which may be carried in stock loo by a dealer or manufacturer and itted to the needs of the individua-l Customer with a minimum of eilort.
What I claim is: Y Y
5 ln afdevoe of the elass'desorbed' the combination of a spring belt adapted to pass about one side of the Waist of awvearer, va
flexibleV sheath for the spring belt elongated to Completely encircle the Waist of a wearer,
- 10 a padholder bar provided with uniformend be secured to one end of the spring belt, an
. adjustable padholder on the bar, and means for securing the ree end of the flexible sheath to one of the end'portions of the pad holder bar. Y y y l ln testimony whereof, I hare yhereunto subscribed my name thislth day ofSeptember, 1924.
