IMPROVENIENT IN CURLING-IRONS.
Specifimtion forming part of Letters Patent N0. 160,637, dated March 9, 1875; application filed February 11, 1875.

Be it known that I, JAMES M. BAXTER, of Can1den, New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in Ourling-Irons, 0f Whieh the following is a specification:
[Ehe objeet 0f my invention is t0 so construet a curling-iron that it can be readily heated eitl1er by steam or hob water, and this objecb I attain in the manner wl1icl1 I will now proceed t0 describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in whieh Figure 1 is a sectional view 0f my improved curling-iron; Fig. 2, a detached sectional view drawn to an enlarged scale, and Fig. 3 an en l v1ew.
The body of the iron consists of a metal tube, A, closed ab the outer end, alle opposite e'nd being serewed onto aferrule on the handle B, a packing, x, being employed to secnre a tight join'o. A tube, a, extends throngl1 the handle B, and to within a short distance fro1n the closed outer end of the taube A, afiexible pipe, b, being attaohed to tl1e rear end of tl1e inner tube for conveying steam to the interior 0f the outer tnbe. A waste-cock, d, is attached t0 the tube A near its junetion with the handle, being openedwhen steam is first admitted, and also ab interva-ls f0r 'ohe eseape of the water 0f condensation.

I clan as my invention l. In a cnrling-iron, tl1e tube A, closed ab its oncer end and provided With awaste-c0ck, d, in combination With a detaehable handle, B, adapted to tl1e inner end 0f the said. tube A, and provided with a pipe, a, all substantially as a-nd f0r the pnrpose sei; forth.
2. The combination, in a curling-iron, of the h0ok or pin e, attached t0 the handle B, with tl1e clip f, secnred to ehe outer end 0f the tube A, all substa-ntially as and for the pnrpose set forth.
