This invention relates to sewing machines of that known type which are constructed with a needle operating to penetrate the work from above and two loopers and loopspreading means situated beneath the work let, are provided with a turret on which thev loopers and loop spreaders are mounted, the

In this type of sewing machine the loopers are usually given a more or less irregular oscillatory movement and the present invention relates to ar novel means for producing such an oscillating movement of the loopers,
which means is conductive to high speed` cam device to the looper and loop spreaders and as these connections are relatively light they can be given the desired irregular motion at a speed without producing any undesirable jar or vibration.

The ball-and-socket connection 52, 537 is situated .inthe axial line of t-he turrent and thus the rotating movement of the turret '.justed to bring the actionof the loopers into proper timed relationwith the action of the needle. For this purpose the cam is loosely mounted on the shaft 27 .and is adjustably secured to a collar 60 which is rigid with said shaft. This Collar 60 is received in a recess 61' formed inone face of the cam and the` cam isfconnected to the collar by means of screws 62 which screw into the collar spreader is 'and extend through a slot 63 formed in the cam. By loosening the screws 62 the cam may be turned relative to the shaft 27 theretightened the cam will be retained in its adj usted position.
In order to give the loopers their proper movement the cam groove 36 is more or less irregular. `W ith the construction herein shown the cam-actuated parts which have the irregular movement are simply those between the arm i2 and the looper carrier. IIhese parts are relatively light and can, therefore, be given the required irregular motion at a high speed without subjecting the parts to undue strain or produce undesirable jar or vibration. The same is also true of the parts by which the looper actuated.
The connection 39, l0 for operating the looper carrier is preferably made adjustable as to its length so as to provide for bodily adjustment of the looper carrier. A s shown the member 39 is provided at its lower end with a hub through which the upper end of the shank 40 extends, the hub being adjustable vertically on the shaft and held in adjusted position by the screw 72. The connection '50 is also preferably adjustable and for this purpose it is made in two parts, an upper tubular part 73 and a lower stem 74. The upper telescopes into the lower end of the tubular part 73 and the two are secured together in adjustable positions by screws 75.

After the thread leaves the thread-guiding tube 7l it passes to the usual tension 76 and thence in usual way to one of the loopers.

In a sewing machine, the combination with a needle, of a sewing shaft by which the needle is operated, a turret turnable about a vertical axis, oscillating vloopers mounted on the turret, a cam device situated beneath the turret, gearing connecting said cam with the sewing shaft, a pivoted cam-actuated arm, and connectionsA between said arm and loopers by which the latter are oscillated, said connections permitting turning movement of the turret.

In a sewing machine, the combination with a needle, of a sewing shaft by which the needle is operated, a turret turnable about a vertical aXis, oscillating loopers mounted on said turret, loop spreaders cooperating with the loopers, a. cam device situated beneath the turret, gearing connecting said cam device with the sewing shaft, two pivoted arms bothactuatcd by said cam device, operative connections between one of said arms and the loopers, and
means for actuating the loop spreaders from the other arm.

In a sewing machine, the combination with a needle operating from above the work, of a sewing shaft from which the needle is operated, a turret situated beneath the work and turnable about a vertical axis, oscillating loopers mounted o-n the turret, loop spreaders co-operating with the loopers.l a
