WINDQvV-SHADE ATTACHMENT.

Application filed February 15, 1926.

This invention relates to a window shade attachment, and has special reference to that class of reliable or raisable window shades or screens which have the lower ends thereof provided with cases for a stiffening member, as a comparatively flat stick or slat.

The primary object of my invention is to finish a shade of the above class with an attachment for holding a border fringe or ornamental member on the lower end of the shade, whereby it will have the appearance as though the border fringe or ornamental member formed an integral part of the shade.

Another object of this invention is to provide a fringe holding attachment that is adjustable in its longitudinal dimension and applicable to shades of various widths.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a durable and inexpensive sheet metal fringe holding attachment for a shade that may be easily and quickly applied thereto and the greater part of the attachment concealed by the fringe member and case of the shade.

The above and other objects are attained by a construction which will hereinafter be described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a shade equipped with the attachment, and the fringe member partly broken away to show the attachment;

Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on the line ITII of Figure 1;

Fig. 3 is a plan of the shade attachment, partly in horizontal section; and

Fig. l is a rear elevation of a portion of the attachment.

In the drawing, the reference numeral 1 denotes a reliable or raisable shade or screen having its lower edge provided with a hem forming a case 2 in which is placed a slat The attachment which is applicable to the lower end of the shade 1 comprises two telescopic members substantially channel shaped in cross section. The outer member is designated i and is slidably mounted on an inner mber 5, said members having i nturned :nnges 6, with the flanges of the outer member affording a guide for the flanges of the inner member, whereby said members may be adjusted relative to each other to in crease or decrease the longitudinal dimension of the attachment.

Mounted in the outer ends of the members a and 5 are the short arms 7 of clips 8, said clips having long resilient arms 9 with inturned ends 10. The short arms 7 of the clips 8 are arranged between the flanges 6 of the inner and outer members i and 5, and said flanges are pressed, as at 11, to anchor the clips: in the inner and outer members. The short arms '7 of the clipsmay have angular ends 12 to prevent outward movement of the clips, and in some instances the outer walls of the members 4: and 5 may be pressed towards the depressed flanges 6, as at 13, to further anchor the clips relative to the telescopic members.

On the telescopic members is placed the case id of a fringe or ornamental member which hangs from the lower end of the shade 1 and finishes off the end of the shade so that it will have somewhat of an ornamental or pleasing appearance.

The attachment is placed against the outer side of the shade case 2, and the long arms 9 of the clips 8 inserted in the case between the inner wall of the case and the slat 3, so that only the end walls of the clips will be exposed, and these end walls may be made more or less ornamental. With the attachment covered by the case 14: and the greater part of the clips concealed, the fringe member 15 will have an appearance as'though forming an integral part of the shade 1.

The telescopic members of the attachment are applicable to window shades of various widths and it is only necessary to provide fringe or ornamental members of widths corresponding to the shades to which the members are to be attached.

One embodiment of my invention has been illustrated,.but it is to be understood that the structural elements are susceptible to such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

5. The combination called for in claim a, wherein the said attachment includes telescopic members andend clips.

6. The con'ibination with a shade having a case, of telescopic members disposed outside of said case, clips carried by said members and extending into said ease, and an scopic members.

7. Means for attaching an ornamental member having a case to a shade having a case, said means comprising telescopic members mounted in the case of said ornamental member, said telescopic members having longitudinal guide flanges, and clips anchored on said telescopic members by the flanges thereof and adapted to extend into the ends of the case of said shade.
