' FUEL-'Firewire DEVICE.
applicati@ mea Janumy 16, 1922. serial No. 529,521.
In burning pulverized fuel Where the fuel is carried in with the major portion or all the air for combustion there .has been diliticulty in distributing the heat of the furnace 5 so as to prevent injury to the Walls and to deliver the most intense head at the desired part of the furnace andalso in carrying the 'combustion to as near completion as desired. The present invention 1s directed to obviat- The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follovvsr Fig. 1 shows a central section of the furnace with the boiler in place thereon.
Fig. 2 a side elevation, partly in section, of a pulverizer.
Fig. 3 a section of one of the discharge' pipes.
1 marks the boiler, 2 the furnace, 3 the bridge Wall, 4 the rear chamber, 5 the front chamber, the boiler ues from the boiler carrying the products of combustionfrom v the chamber 4 to the chamber fand discharge stack 6. Fuel with the air for com- 25 bustion is delivered through a horizontal discharge nozzle 7 leading from a branch pipe 8. This pipe extends into the furnace horizontally. The discharge nozzle 9 leads from a branch pipe l0 and discharges at an angle tothe nozzle 7 intercepting the'fuel discharged from the nozzle 7 so as to fan out the incoming fuel with a preponderance of movement upwardly into contact with the boiler;
Supplemental air ma be delivered throughl the openings 11 i desired. -Spiral deflectors 12 are arranged inthe nozzles 7 and 9 and give to the incomingmlxture of air and fuel avspiral movement'at thel point of discharge. vThe branch pipes 8 and 10 lead from the main pipe 13. The main pipe 13 leads from the pulverizer 14.' .Any desired type of pulverizer may I.loe used. Asshovvn the pulverizer has the linlet opening 15 leading to the` breakerpch'amber 16. The breaker bars 17 mountedV on the shaft 18 are rotated in the chamber 16 and the material broken asses from the chamber linto'the path of an blades 19 carrying the material to a restricted annular beater space 20 formed by rotating the cylinder 21 With the beaters 21a mounted thereonv and operating on an attrition surface 22. The material is discharged through the passage 23 yto a 10W pressure fan 24 ,delivering coal and air through the discharge .25 to the main p1pe 13.
What I claim as new is In a fuel feeding device, the combination of'a furnace; and means' for feeding pulverized fuel and the major portion of air for combustion together to the furnace cornprisng a single main conduit discharging through two delivery pipes, one delivering upwardly and the other horizontally, the discharge from these pipes intersecting, the velocity of the columns of discharged fuel and air being approximately equal at the point of intersection and fanning out a resultantvmovement of fuel and 'air through;
