IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR SANDING BRICK-MOLDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 160,532, dated March 9, 1875; application filed August 8, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, D. O. LoY, of Farmer City, in the county of De Witt and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Machine for Sanding Brick-Molds; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective, and Fig. 2 a transverse sectional, view of my invention.
This invention has relation to an apparatus for sanding brick-molds; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, having reference to the employment of a vibrating sanding-case pivoted to the ends of a waste-trough, and provided with recesses for the reception of the empty molds and lever, by means of which the molds are secured to the ease and the latter vibrated or rocked, as hereinafter set forth.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A designates a hopper'shaped trough, supported upon intersecting legs B. O G are pieces secured to the ends of said trough by screws 0, and detachable from said trough. D designates the sanding-case, of a polygonal or other suitable shape, and formed with recesses d, opening into the interior of the case, for the reception of the molds E, which, when placed in said recesses, bottom outward, lie
flush with the exterior of the case. 11 repre sents cleats at the ends of the recesses to prevent the molds from sliding lengthwise from the recesses. F F represent levers pivoted to the case at one edge of the recesses d, and engaging with catches or hooks f at the opposite edges, so as to secure the molds to the sanding-case. The handles F F of said levers are used for rocking the case, into which a quantity of dry sand is put and shaken evenly into the molds by the agitation.
The sand which escapes through the crevices of the mold falls into the waste-trough, from which it may be taken when the case, which is pivoted to the pieces 0 G, is removed.
G designates notches cut in the sides of the trough to receive the handle when the case is turned sufficiently to bring the recesses uppermost for the removal or insertion of the molds.
Having fully described my invention, I claim- In combination with the rocking sandingcase D, provided at each side with a recess for the reception of the empty molds, the levers F, for locking in the molds and manipulating the case, substantially as shown and described.
