UNITE s PATENT OFFICE.
LANDON BATGHLER, 0F LAWRENCEBURG, INDIANA.
DOUBLE-ACTING PUMP- OPERATING- MECHANISM;
Application filed May 24, 1926. Serial No. 111,324.
scribed, and then be particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a face view illustrating the invention mounted in operative relation upon a well casing. V
Figure 2is a central vertical cross section of the parts illustrated in Figure 1.
Figures 3 and 4 are horizontal cross sections taken on the lines 33 and 4-4 respectively on Figure 1.
' In the drawings in which like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the fig-' ures, 1 indicates a well casing of the deep well type, and 2 the base platform at the mouth of the well to which the base feet 3 of the side frame standards 4 are secured as at 5.
The frame standards 4 are constructed as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings and are suitably spa'cedand braced as at 6. c
The double acting pumping members com-' prise the sucker rod 7 and the sucker sleeve 8, the said rod and sleeve'bearing free telescopic relation one with the other and both being 'reciprocable centrally through the well cap 9.
The rod 7 extends up through the well cap 9 centrally between the side standards 4 to the uppermost ends thereof where it is secured in a bearing sleeve 10 slidable in the bearing head 11 secured as at 12 to the upper ends ofthe said standards.
The sucker sleeve 8 has its upper ends secured as at 13 to the cross head 14 which is slide guided in the guides 15 provided by the recesses formed in the front edges oft-he standards together with the removable face pieces 16 which define the foremost limits of the side guide recesses.
The cross head 14 is provided with a suitable'gland 17 through which thesucker rod 7 passes.
A rocker arm 18 is pivoted as at 19 to each side standard 4, one end of each thereof passing through, and being oscillatable in, a slot provided in the respective side standards. The outer end of each rocker arm 18 is link connected as at 20 to thehead 21 carried at the lower end of the bearing sleeve 10, the said links 20 passing through and working in slots provided therefor in the side.
standards.
The inner ends of the rocker -arms.18, which are projected through the side standards 4 to a point adjacent the sucker rod 7, are link connected as at 22 to the cross head 14, the said links 22 lying adjacent and substantially parallel to the said sucker rod.
A cross actuator shaft 23 is mounted as at 24 on the standards 4 and is provided with asuitable pulley 25 to which rotation may bebe'lt-transmitted from any suitable agency to impart rotation to'the said shaft. The shaft 23 is also provided with a pair of small driver pinions 26, one thereof being mounted just outside each side standard 4.
The driver pinions 26 meshwith the large diameter driven gears, 27 mounted upon opposite ends of the idler shaft 28 mounted in the side standards as indicated, each said driven gear being provided with a crank 29, the purpose for which will presently appear.
The cranks 29 of the gears 27 are connected by the pitmen 30 with the trunnions '31 extended from the opposite ends of the cross head 14 so that when rotation is imparted to the actuator shaft 23 and through it to the shaft 28 vertical reciprocatory'motion will be imparted thereby to the cross head 14 through the pitmen 30.
By reason of the crank arm and link connections 18, 20 and 22 each time the cross head 14 is moved downwardly the sucker sleeve 8 willbe moved downwardly and the sucker rod 7 simultaneously moved upwardly. On each upward stroke of the cross head 14 the reverse double action will occur,
the sucker sleeve 8 being moved upwardly and the sucker rod 7 being simultaneously moved downwardly. j
Thus each time the sucker rod 7 is being signed purpose of providing a perfect, steady and continuous flow because of faulty con- .struction.
ilhedouble acting mechanism which I have disclosed'is practically'operable, is simple andeconmical to manufacture and verycom :pact and sturdy in construction.
From v the foregoing description,v taken in connectlon with the accompanymg draw- ,ings, it is thoughtthat the novel details of construction, the manner of use and ttheadvantages of my invention will bercadlly ap- ;p arent tothose skilled in the art to which it relates.
