STOVE.

The present invention relates to stoves, more particularly of the type used in kitchenette apartments or places in which space-saving is a factor or desideratum.

One object of the invention is to provide an improved stove which is adapted to rest on a kitchen-cabinet or cupboard so that the space over the cabinet may be conveniently utilized for cooking. Another object is to provide an improved stove in which provisionis made for using the oven-burners for cooking aswell as baking.

The invention consists in the several novel features hereinafter set forth and more particularly defined by the claim at the conclusion hereof.

In the drawings: Fig. 1 is a perspective of a stove embodying the invention, being shown in position on a kitchen cabinet. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the stove when equipped for electric heating. Fig. 4C is a side elevation showing the pipes for supply ing gas to the stove when gas-burners are used. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on line 33 of Fig. 2.

The invention is exemplified in a stove comprising a box-like legless base which is adapted to rest directly on a kitchen-cabinet 0r cupboard which has a top of approximately the same area as the stove. This base comprises a bottom 6, sides 7, a top 8, a back 9 and a front 10 which is provided with an air-inlet 11. Adjacent the front of this boxbase, two burners 12 are suitably supported under openings 13 formed in the top 8. These openings are adapted to be closed by covers 1a when direct heating of the vessel is not desired. In the invention as exhibited in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, these heating elements consist of electric heaters 15 of usual construction and are controlled by the usual switch-buttons 16. Adjacent the rear wall 9 of the box-base, small ventilating openings 17 are formed in the top 8, through which the heat will escape from the rear portion of the box. When desired, the space over and around these openings 17 may be used for keeping food warm or for other warming purposes. A characteristic of the construction set forth is that the rear portion of the box-like base has no burners therein.

This causes the air to circulate over the bottom of the base and escape through the openings 17 so that the stove may rest directly on top of an ice-box or a cupboard without unduly heating the top of the cabinet or compartment.

A box-like oven is supported above the base by brackets 18 and the back 9 of the box-base is extended upwardly to form the back of the oven. This oven-box also comprises a top 19 which is provided with an outlet 20 for the products of combustion, sides 21, bottom 25, and a hinged door 22 forming a closure for the opening in the g front of the oven. This door is adapted to swing downwardly so that the oven may be left open and also used for cooking. Heaters 23 are provided under the bottom of the oven and are under control of individual switches 24:. Openings 26 are formed in the oven bottom 25 and removable covers are provided for these openings. When these covers are removed, the vessels may be placed on bottom 25 and over heaters 28, so as to provide a maximum of four heaters which are available for general cooking and two for baking.

In Fig. 4, the invention is exemplified in a stove which is provided with gas-burners 15, 23 in lieu of the heaters 15. These are connected to be supplied with gas from a pipe 26, either by a permanent pipe or by a flexible hose 27.

The invention exemplifies a stove which is adapted for either gasor electrical heating, according to the kind of heaters installed.

The-invention is not to be understood as restricted to the details set forth, since these may be modified within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a stove, the combination of a box-like base adapted to rest upon a cabinet, the base being provided with a closed top having openings in the back thereof, a heater adjacent the front of the base, the heat from said heater being adapted to pass under the top to said openings, an oven mounted over the base and provided With a bottom having an opening therein disposed forwardly of the openings in said top and a removable cover for said opening, said bottom being adapted to receive the heat exhausted through the openings in the base, and :1
