Application. filled Bentemher hit, 1625. serial No. 59,026.
My invention relates to improvements in swinging windows, and has more particularly for its object to provide certain novel went in the accompanying drawings, de-- scribed in the following specifications, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the illustrations, Fig. l, is a vertical section through a window embodying my 1nvention;
Fig. 2, is the same section but showing the sash'in inclined position;
Fig. 3, is a cross section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1; v
Fig. t, shows an enlarged deta1l of the guide bolt and cable support which 13 securely mounted to the bottom of the lower rails of the sash;
Fig. 5, shows the latch bolt engaging the guide bolt for retaining the lower end of the sash when the sash are held in inclined position as shown in Fig. 2;
Fig. 6, is an elevation of the latch bolt;
Fig. 7, is a cross section of the parting strip and sash stop retaining bolt taken on line 77 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 8, is a front elevation of the keepers for the parting strip and sash stop retaining bolts; i
Fig. 9, is an elevation of the upper corner of the sash showing the cup bearing einbedded therein; and,
Fig. 10, is a cross section of the cup hearing taken on line 10-10 of Fig. 9.
Referring now in detail to the illustrations, the upper sash is indicated by numeral and the lower sash by numeral.
The sash are mounted for vertical sliding movement between the blind stop 22 and sash stop 23 and a parting strip 24; extends between the paths of the sash.
The pulley stile 25 is provided withlongitudinal grooves 25 into which extend the heads of the guide bolts 26 which are securely mounted to the bottoms of the lower sash rails. ,It will be. observed that the sash do not touch the pulley stile but are spaced therefrom to permit the passage of the counterweight cable 27 therebetween for connection to the guide bolts 26.
While the sash are partially guided by the engagement of the guide bolts 26 within the grooves 25 of the stile 25, the sash are also guided durin the vertical movement or stationary vertical position between the parting strip 24 and the sash stop 23.
The invention here presented includes the hin ing of the parting strips 24 and the sash stop near their upper ends so that the greater ortions of same may be swung outwardly :liout their respective hinges 24 and 23 as shown in Fig. 2. But in order to permit this swinging movement the strip 24: and stop 23 are also broken near their lower ends and provided with hinges respectively 248 and 23 as otherwise same would not pass the stool board 28.
The strip 24 and stop 23 when in normal vertical position are securely held to the pulley stile 25 by retaining bolts 29 which extend through the body of the strip and stop and are provided with a head 29 and shoulder 29. .The passage 29 is slightly enlarged near the outer face for a coil spring 30 which tends to push the bolt 29 out of the keeper 31 which is imbedded in the face of the pulley stile 25. The keeper. 31 has a slotted entrance opening 31 through which the narrow fiat inner head 29 extends so that when the bolt 29'is' turned with the head 29 at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the opening 31* the bolt is securely held in the keeper by the action of the spring 30 tending to push it out. in order to ail'ord cleaning of the window sash the upper sash is lower so that'the guide bolts 26 come below the latch bolts 32 which pass over same to retain it against upward movement by the sash counter- Weights. The bolts 32 are slidably mounted in the housings 33 which are mounted on the stile 25. -i Vith the bolts 32 retaining the sash against upward movement, the upper end of the sash may be supported on the heads of the retaining bolts 29 near the lower ends of the parting strip 2%, the lower sash is held in inclined position in like manner.
Both upper and lower sash are provided.
said sash are slidably mounted, a pair of parallel grooves in said stile extending vertically thereof and in alignment with the longitudinal center line of the side rails (it said sash, :1 guide belt for each sash fixed to the lower end of said sash and. extending into said groove, :1 counter Weight cable fixed to each of said bolts, a fixed blind stop to guide one side of the upper sash, a, parting strip between said sash, a sash stop to guide the lower sash on the inner side thereof, both of said sash being spaced from said pulley stile to provide clea once for said counter weight cables, said parting strip and sash stop being divided and provided with :1 hinge at said divisions to pein'iit their out ward movement into angular positions to thus illl'blt'l the tilting' of both of said sash about said guide bolls into substantially hiteml position, means or rehiining the lower ends of said szish against the pull of said counterweight -cables, means for supporting; the upper end oi said upper sin-h on said parting strip during tilted pnsiiion. and means to]: supporting the upper end of mu lower sash on said sash stop during tilled position.
In Witness whereof I all'ix my i JOSEPH sf Boini'iim.
