CYLINDER LOCK.

The present invention relates to a new lock ot the kind in which two series of tumblers orlocking members are employed. The peculiar 'feature of the new lock lies therein that the tumblers in the one series, after they have been set into a given position can be displaced as a whole a certain distance relatively to the other series, so that the first tumbler in the one series will come into engagement with a second tumbler in the other series and so on, and this displacement will, directly or indirectly seat in such a manner on the bolt of the lock, that the bolt is moved or released from a retaining mechanism so that it then can be moved by a separate handle. y
The lock may be employed as spring-lock, door-lock, pad-lock, ycombination-lock and the like.
In the accompanying drawing a constructional form ot the lock is shown. In this drawing- Fig. 1 is a Jfront view of a door-lock.
Fig. 2 isa longitudinal section of the lock on the position at which the lock is locked.

The mechanism of the lock is enclosed in a cylindrical casing 41, which, on its front, has a projectingcollar 42, which is visible on the outside ot the door. At its rear end the casing 41 is provided with screw threads on which a nut 43 may be screwed. A pin 44 prevents the casing from being turned relatively to the door into whichV it has been itted.
Nithin the casing 41 is itted a cylindrical sleeve 45 to which is secured a pin 46, which engages Vin a slot 47 in the ca sing41, parallel to the axis. The sleeve 45 is somewhat 51" shorter than the interior of the casing 41,
and it can, therefore, be shifted to and lfro therein, but cannot be turned relatively thereto. The sleeve has, on its inside recessed grooves 48 of which there is one less, than there are inside tumbler-s 56, and into each of' these grooves is placed a tumbler 49, Figs. 9 and 10. This tumbler consists of a' piece ot a ring, the shape of which corresponds to the shape of the groove 48. On the inner side of this piece ot ring are two teeth 50 which project into the interior space of the sleeve 45.
In the rear wall 51 of casing 41 is journalled a revoluble body 52, Figs. 4 and 5, the outer end of which is suitably connected with the bolt of the lock, not shown in the drawing, in such a manner, that the bolt is shot forward or withdrawn, respectively, when ythe Vsaid body 52 is turned. This body 52 has a cylindrical part 53, situated within the casing 41 and within the sleeve 45. The Fart 53 has a radially disposed pin 54 which projects into` an angle-shaped slot 55 in the sleeve 45. It is therefore only possible for the body 52 to be turned when the sleeve 45 is simultaneously displaced longitudinally.
Within the sleeve 45 are disposed a series o'E ring-shaped tumblers 56, Figs. 6-8. These are, along' their circumference, provided with teetli and the spaces between the teeth 5 correspond. in shape to the teeth 50, Fig. 9. On each side of the tumblers 56 are two neighboring, continuous teeth gaps 57, whereas all other tooth-gaps are barred by means ot a wall 58, Fig. 7. In the center ot the tumblers 56 is a cylindrical bore 59. which is, on the iront face closed by a wall 66, in which there is a slot 61.
The width ot the tumblers corresponds to the distance from center to center ot grooves 48 on the inside of the sleeve 45. rI`he tumblers 56 arearranged side by side between the cylindrical part 53 and a disc 64, Figs. 2 and 3. On the part 53 is provided a projection 65, and longitudinally extending through the same and a part ot part 53 is a slit 66` Fig. .4.
In the center of the faceplate 42 of the lock there is a circular key-hole 67, in the one side or which there is a notch 68, Fig. 1. Within the bore 67 there is a cylindrical `recess 69, Figs. 2 and 3.
The key belonging to the lock is shown in Fig. 13. It is made of alat piece of metal, has a wedge-shaped point 70 and a stud 71 arranged on the one side. Furthermore it has, as shown in Figs. 11 and 12,'on both sides nuniher ofanotehes T2', thewdistanee from center to center orwhieh corresponds to the Width of the tuniblers 56. In a lock two series of tumblers, the tumblers of the one series having teeth, adapted to engage in the unlocking operation, corresponding means in the tumblers of the other series to thereby couple the individual tumblers of the first and second series, respectively, in pairs, a sleeve having slots in its inner side in which the tumblers in the one series are disposed, said sleeve enclosing the tumblers of the other series, the tumblers of the other series being adjustable by a specially formed key, a casing .in which the said sleeve is axially displaceably fitted a revoluble pin, inthe rear wall of said casing coupled to the bolt ot the lock, said pin having a transverse stud and said sleeve having an oblique slot in which said stud is engaged, the tumblers enclosed by said sleeve having the shape of rings, and said rings being toothed on their outer face, a wall by which the tooth-gaps of said teeth are substantially closed, said tumblers having a central slot, a key for connection. therein, said key twisted and arranged to set the tumblers into which it is inserted into given positions, said key also having a point in which said point is engageable and said revoluble pin having a slot, and means to operate the bolt of the lock by the displacement of said sleeve.

In a lock two series ot tumblers, the tumblers oitl the one series being adapted to engage the tumblers of the other series and thereby be coupled therewith in pairs, a sleeve having slots in which the tumblers in the one series are disposed, said sleeve enclosing the tumblers of the other series, a key to adjust the tumblers of the said other series, a casing in which the said sleeve is axially displaceably fitted a revoluble pin in the rear wall of said casing coupled to the bolt of the lock, said pin having a tranverse stud, and said sleeve having an oblique slot in which said stud is engaged, the tuinblers enclosed by said sleeve having the shape of rings, said rings being toothed on their outer tace, a remaining wall by which the tooth gaps of said teeth are substantially closed, said tumblers having a central slot, a key for insertion in said slot to set the tumblers into which it is inserted, into given positions, said key also having a point, and said revoluble pin having a slot in which said point is engaged the tumblers in the outer series having a tooth corresponding in shape to the gaps between the teeth of the tumblers of the inner series and adapted to engage therein when the said inner series of tumblers is axially displaced, and to operate the bolt of the lock, by the displacement of said sleeve.
7. In a lock two series of tumblers, the tumblers in the one series having teeth, adapted to engage in the unlocking operation, corresponding means in the tumblers of the other series to thereby couple the individual tumblers of the first and second series respectively, in pairs, a key, having the shape of a bar, twisted to an irregular forni, and having wings provided with notches, said notches lying between the tumblers, when the key is inserted in the lock.
