GERMANY.
VARIABLE-PRESSURE REGULATOR.
Application filed March, 20, .1925 Serial No.
This invention relates to an indirectly acting pressure regulating-apparatus, 1n
which the mo power-piston is regul opening or closing, a sages arranged in lating-apparatus However, so' far as to turn the rotary-valve by a part shaped as a cylinder,
provided so causing the tive fluid used to displace a ated by a rotary-valve s may be required, passaid power-piston. Reguf this kind is well known. I am aware it is new guide-piece .or drum or pipe, screw-like or helical slot, al-
automatic return-movement with of the rotary-valve by a tappet arranged on said rotary slot during the -valve and operating in said forward and return movement of the power-piston.
Referring to forming a part of the specification, like numerals designate two view tional view and- Fig. 2

Said passages, which can also be arranged in a special mentioned,
part connected with the piston are controlled by the rotaryvalve d guided 'within an annular. groove provided ton or plunger 6.
from the in the projecting parte of the pisort in said rotary rotary-valve. Said rotary-valve d by a drum or cylinder 9 in the wall of which is a helical groove or slot h, which arm m.
acts" as aguide for the tappetor The cylinder a is provided with an inlet port i at one end thereof and with an outlet port Z adjacent passages trated, or
the other end thereof. The a formed in the piston b and the ay be provided as illusin any other suitable manner, and
preferably at the inner end of the stem e the passage 0 ports c a turning the rotary v f therein ,the same.
terminates in radially disposed dapted to be opened and closed by alve (i so that the ports register with the ports 0' or close Furthermore, the drum 9 having the helical slot h in which the arm m of the rotary valve operates is normally in position apparatus, bly adjusted to position,

to open the rotary valve by causing the ports f thereof to register with'the rotary ports 0' in the stem 6 of the piston b. 1
The mode of operation of the apparatus explained above is as follows:
If the motive fluid supplied by an oilpump for example enters into the cylinder a at 2', it causes a ton or plunger b, which is prevented from turning in a cylinder by a groove a and a tongue or pin 6' in any other suitable man-- ner. The resistance effected by a distributing+valve motion, shutter or the like is over- This operation is by the drum or cylinder to such an extent, that the oil is permitted to flow through the c and the ports In this operation the piston. or plunger forward movement until the rotary-valve is turned by the screw-like sloth to such an extent that the oil may flow or pass through the ports in the valve. In the return will continue its '75 movement the piston 12 moves in the other-.
direction under the influence of a or other equivalent suitable means, until the valve has closed the passages a or reduced the open section of the passages f to such an extent that the pressure of equazlizes the forces acting against the piston v The apparatus described allows. an extraordinarily intense sensibility to be obtained,
spring 70 the throttled oil 35 for the reason that the rotary-valve maybe of light weight and of small length, whereb resistances caused by the viscosity of the 011 are prevented. Furthermore, the.guid-. ing cylinder 9 serving for the displacement of the rotary-valve can also be constructed of light weight, as" no material pressure is brought to bear against it. After the oil has passed the passages c and f of the piston der a at the port Z.
.VVhat I-claim-is:
1. In a .variable pressure regulator, a
cylinder, a piston movable longitudinally therein, a stem forming part of the piston and having a passage therein, mounted on the stem of the piston, and means for operating the said valve by the movement of the piston.
2.In a variable pressure gulator, a cylinder, a piston movable longitudinally therein, a stem forming part of the piston and havinga passage therein, a rotary valve 11' from the cylina rotary valve f mounted on the stem a cylinder, a piston movable longitudinally an arm carried by therein, a stem extending from the piston and having a assa e therein terminating adjacent the en r posed ports, a rotaryvalve mounted on the stem and adapted to cover the radial ports in the stem and also to uncover the same by ports provided for this purpose in the valve, a drum having a helical slot therein, and
the rotary valve and operating in-the helical slot in the drum whereby in the movement of the piston the rotary valve is turned to open and close the same.
4. In a variable pressure regulator, a
of t e stem in radially dis;
cylinder, a piston movable longitudinally therein, a stem extending from the piston and having a passage therein terminating adjacent the end of thestem in radially disposed ports, a rotary valve mounted on the stem and adapted to cover the radial ports in the stem and also to uncover the same by ports provided for this purpose in the valve, a drum havin va helical slot therein, an arm carried by t e rotary valve and operating in the helical slot in the drum whereby in the movement of the piston the rotary valveis turned to open and close the same, and a spring for moving the said piston in one direction.
' In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name this th day of February, 1925. Y
