CYRUS J. RYAN, OF BROOiKFIELD, MISSOURI.
1 REPAIR PATCH FOR STEAM PIPES.
Application filed July 1, 1926.v Serial No. 119,934.
is toprovide a device of this character which when once positioned, will be held in its position on the pipe, eliminating any possibility of the same being accidentally displaced.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a removable curved plate used in connection with a curved plate carried at one end of a yoke, the first mentioned'curved plate being provided with cut out portions defining shoulders between which the yoke is held, to lock the curved plate to the yoke, against movement longitudinally of the pipe on which the device is positioned.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the 1 invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what 1s claimed, WlthOUtdeparting from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a sectional view through a de- 7 vice constructed in accordance with the in vention, showing the same as positioned on a pipe.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view illustrating a modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device includes anelongated curved plate 5 formed with a yoke 6 disposed substantially intermediate the ends thereof and extended from one of the side edges of the plate.
i As shown, this yoke is curved inwardly so that the outer end thereof will overlie the central portion of a pipe to which the device is secured.
The yoke is provided with a suitable threaded opening for the reception of the threaded bolt 7 which is formed with a head 8 to receive a wrench or similar tool, whereby the bolt may be secured to hold the de ice in position on a pipe.
Cooperating with the curved plate 5 is a removable curved plate 9 which has cut out portions 10 formed adjacent to the edges thereof, which cut out portions define shoulders 11 between which theyoke 6 is positioned upon positioning the device on a pipe. Thus it will be seen that these shoulders will act to prevent movement of the removable curved plate 9, with'respect to the yoke, to insure against accidental displacement of the curved plate to loosen the device.
The bolt 7 is of a length to engage the curved plate 9 as shown by Figure 1, so that when the bolt is properly positioned, the curved plate 9 will be securely held against the pipe to which it is secured.
It is contemplated to employ a packing member such as a length of rubber indicated at 12, which is positioned over the break in the pipe being repaired, so that when the curved plates are clamped on the pipe, they break in the pipe will be temporarily closed, until the proper permanent repairs may be made.
In the form of. the invention as illustrated by Figure 3, the curved plates are elongated and are provided with yokes corresponding with the yokes 6 at opposite ends of the curved plate 13, the yokes in this showing being indicated at 14. Threaded bolts 15 are also employed in this showing, for engagement with the curved plates 16 to clamp the curved plates in position.
The construction shown by Figure 3 is especially adapted for stopping the flow of steam or water wherein the pipe is cracked or broken for an appreciable distance.
From the foregoing it will be seen that'due to this construction, a break or crack in a pipe may be readily and easily repaired temporarily, thereby insuring against the flooding or a room or building in which the broken pipe occurs.
I claim:
1. In a device of the character described,
a curved plate, a yoke formed integral with the curved plate and having a threaded opening at its outer end, a removable curved plate having cut out portions formed in its edges and defining shoulders, the removable curved plate adapted to be positioned to cause the yoke to be held between the shoulders, and a bolt adapted to extend through the threaded opening to engage the removable curvcd plate to clamp the curved plates to a pipe.
2. In a device of the character described,
a curved plate, a yoke forming a partof the curved plate, said yoke having a threaded opening, a removable plate cooperating with the first mentioned plate to clamp a pipe therebetween, means forming a part of the removable curved plate and engaging the yoke to prevent lateral movement of the removable cnrved plate, and bolts passing through the threaded openings to engage the removable curved plate and hold the same to a pipe.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature,
CYRUS J. RYAN.
