The object of our invention is to provide means in' connection withv a towel cabinet which will allow only a certain length of the clean toweling to be withdrawn by the user, the length of the towel so withdrawn being previously ascertained or determined when the device is set up and thereby a roll of toweling is made to last for a much longer time than under usual conditions of delivery and use. The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

in the drawing, 2 represents the cabinet, made preferably of sheet metal, though any other suitable material may be used, having a chamber 3 in which the roll of clean toweling 4 is placed. A rear wall 5 is provided for the cabinet, which may extend, as shown in Figure 3, down below the Hoor or bottom wall 6, and form a back plate extending from the cabinet to the floor of the room where it is placed.

7 is, a door hinged at 8 and having a suitable fastening means 9. This door, when opened, allows the roll to be conveniently placed in the lchamber. A partition or wall 10 extends u wardly from the Hoor 6 and has a rounder: upper edge 11 over which the lcose end of the towel is carried. An opening 12 is lformed in the bottom of the cabinet in the rear of the partition 10 and through this opening thze toweling is fed down to the user.

We prefer to provide a tension plate 13 within the chamber 3, pivoted at 14 and held yieldingly toward the partit-ionI 10 bythe tension of a compression spring 15 that is mounted in a suitable way, such as on a pin 16. The friction of this plate on the towel tends .t9 .retard ,its delivery and prevents CABINET.

A plate 17 1s provided below the opening 12, supported in brackets 18 and 18a, thethe bracket 18 and serves to normallyy hold the plate against outward swinging movement during the operation of unwinding the length of towel from the roll.

The upper portion of the plate 17 is preferably beveled at 22 and'in the rear of this beveled portion a plate 23 is provided, hav@ ing a flat surface between which and the plate 17 the surface of the clean towel is gripped and held. Normally, there is sufficient space in the rear of the plate 17 to allow the clean towel to be drawn down in a vertical direction and to limit the length of towel so withdrawn, we prefer to provide a receptacle 24a suitable distance from the measuring plate so that when the towel is grasped by the user and pulled straight down, the arms of the person withdrawing the towel will strike the upper edge of the wall of the receptacle, as indicated by dotted lines in Figure 2, and thereby further movement of the towel will be checked, vand should the user pull his hands outwardly, clear the receptacle 24 and continue the pulling operation, the plate 17 will swing on its axis and grip the towel between its beveled surface and the plate 23 and therebythe toweling will be clamped securely and any further pulling by the user of the towel will only serve to grip or clamp it more securely. As soon as the user ceases to pull on the towel, the heavier lower portion of the plate 17 will cause it to return from the position shown in Figure 3 to the vertical position shown in Figure 4. This will release the towel and a fresh supply may be obtained by pulling downwardly, as indicated in Figure 2.

We prefer to mount a mirror 25 on the plate l'T for the convenience of the user of the cabinet, the weight of the mirror aiding in returning the plate to its normal vertical position and retainingit in such position until itl is tilted bj an outward pull on the towel.

2. A towel cabinet comprising` a casing` having a chamber adapted to contain a roll of toweling and provided with an opening in its wall through which the loose end of the roll is downwardly fed in a vertical position bv a person standing below and in front of said cabinet, means beneath said casing for limiting the direct downward pull on the toweling, and a clamp device beloi i said casing for gripping the towel and preventing downward feed thereof when it is pulled horizontally.

A towel cabinet comprising a casing having a chamber adapted to contain a roll of towcling and provided with an opening in its wall through which the loose end ot the roll is fed. means beneath said casing for limiting the direct downward pull on the toweling, and a clamp device for gripping the towel and preventing feed thereof when it is pulled outwardly and downwardlv, said clamp device comprising a plate mounted below said cabinet and normally vertical and adapted to be tilted bv outward pull on the toweling for gripping it and checking the feed.

5. A towel cabinet comprising` casing having a chamber for a roll of toweling therein and provided with an opening through which the loose end of the toweling is fed, al clamping plate pivoted below the casing and near the back of the` cabinet: adapted to engage the towel andl grip it against the bach of the cabinet when an outward pull is exerted on the towel.

A tow-el cabinet con'iprising a casing having a chamber therein for a roll ot clean toweling and provided with a feed opening through which the loose end ot the toweling is delivered, a plate hinged at onc end below said casing to allow convenient insertion ot the toweling behind the saine and also mounted to rock on a horizontal axis and having a gripping surface for engaging and clamping the towel below the roll and out side the casing when an outward pull is ap plied thereto. said plate allowing the towel to move freel)v when a direct pull is exerted thereon.

A towel cabinet comprising a casing having a chamber therein adapted to receive a roll of clean toweling and provided with an opening through which the clean end ol the toweling is fed downwardly. an open space being provided beneath said casing to allow access of the user to the towel. a soiled towel receptacle being provided below said open space in the path of the hands ot the user for limiting a direct downward pull on the towel` and a gripping means adjacent to said casing bach for clamping the toweling and preventing feed thereof when thc user exerts an outward horizontal Pull thereon.

9. A towel cabinet comprising a casingr having a chaniber therein adapted to receive a roll of clean towelingand provided with an opening through which the clean end of the toweling is fed downwardly. an open space being provided beneath said casing to allow access ot the user to the towel. a soiled towel receptacle being provided below said open space in the path of the hands ot the user for limiting a direct downward pull on the towel, and a gripping means adjacentto said casing back for clam zing the toweling and preventingl feed thereof when the user exerts an outward horizontal pull therw on, said gripping means comprising a pivoted plate having an upper inner surtace for contact with the towel and a lower edge engaged by the towel for tilting said plate to its gripping position when said outward horizontal pull is exerted on the towel.

A. towel cabinet comprising a casing having a chamber therein to receivev a roll of clean toweling and an opening through which the' loose end of the towel is fed. a direct downward pull on the toiweling un? .wind-ing it from its roll, a plate pivotally supported beneath said casing to hang vertically and parallelwith the back of the casing and having an upper surface for clamping with the depending portion of the towel against the easing, said plate permitting free feed of the towel when a direct downward pull is exerted thereon, and the lower portion of said plate having a surface for engagement with the towel to tilt said plate to its gripping posit-ion and cheek feed oi' the towel when an outward horizontal pull is exerted thereon.

Atowel cabinet comprising a Casing having a. chamber therein for a roll of clean toweling and an opening in its wall through which the loose end of the toweling is fed in position to be grasped by the user, the downward pull unwindingthe towel from the roll, a late pivoted between its upper and lower et ges near the back of the cabinet leaving a shallow opening between the plate and the hack of the cabinet whereby when the lower portion of the towel is pulled toward the user, it will carry with it the lower edge of the plate and cause its .upper edge to grip the towel between it and the haelt of the cabinet.
