i `STOCK WATERER..
Application ledseptfgrnber 2"?, 1921. SerialaNo.; 503,572.
The object `of my inventionis toprovide Y Va stock waterer ot simple,L durable andcomparatively inexpensive construction.
'll/ ioreparticularl my inventionrelates to a'stock waterer, wherein a sinallfamount of water is kept in position where it may be Yconsumedfby the stock7 the casing containing the small amount of waterbeing in 'communication with alargereservoir.`
Still another object is to .provide such a ,stoclrwaterer in the waterer casing4 otwhich `alimited amountot water willzbepermitted to befr'eceived .at any time. i
lStill another object `isto provide a iioat .device vfor controlling :the amount fof .water within the casing, thefloat device beingso adapted that it may :be vertically adjusted `orchangingthe amount ot water `that is perinittedto lflow into the casing.
`vStill another object isto providevsuch a `float devicethat is vcapable of being shifted or vadjusted vlongitudinally to lvarious positions where i the amount of `leverage .used :for sealing one end of the-pipe, :which permits the water to flow vinto the casing, will be varied. Y Y Still another object is to provide afloat device that is entirely supported and secured to the pipe, which it is designed to seal.
Vith these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangementand combination of the various parts of my device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claim, and illustrated in the accompanying dra-wings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved waterer, showing the general arrangement of the reservoir relative to the various pens and waterers.
Figure 2 is a central, sectional view taken through my waterer, and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of part of lthe float device of my waterer.
In the accompanying drawings, I have used the'reterence numeral 10 to indicate an ordinary farm fence, which is used for forming various fences.
My waterer includes a casing 11 having a xed top 12 thereon, the liXed top 12 being provided with an opening 13, whereby access may be had by the stock into the interior 2ofthe casing. Ahinged cover member `p14 isyprovided4 torjhe casing 11. g'The cover water si. )rovide a reservoir :17 whichfma 7 i i 7 i Lmembenis securedto the Vcasing 11 by means be spaced any distance tromthe casingjll. Y
norder Ato permit jwater to flow from the reservoir 17 :to the casing 11,'I'provide a pipe 18, which `isshown embedded inv th ground, andin dotted lines. .l
,One endet the pipe 18 iis entendedinto one en d oit the casing ;11, as clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawings. The .endvo'f the pipe 18 `is projected inwardly,so `as Ato provide anextension :within ith'sllg, the
purpose o t `which willrgbe hereafter v`morei fully set Iiiforth. f y
In y.order to limit the valflounty of flow of U-shaped member 21 is-secured to the lower c Ase water from the reservoir to the casing 11,1
end of the yoke member 19 and is pivoted thereto by means of the pivot 22. The U- shaped member 21 has secured 'to it'by means of the rivet 23, an L-shaped lever 24.
The L-shaped lever 24k comprises a flat bar and consists of a vertical portion 25 and a horizontal portion 26. The vertical portion 25 and the horizontal portion 26 are turned p a qua-rter turn, as at 27.
The upper end of the vertical extension 25 c of the lever is provided with a disc 28, preferably made of leather or some` other suitable valve material. signed, when in one position to abut or rest against the discharge end of the pipe18. The disc 28 is secured to the upper end of the vertical portion 25 by means' of a rivet 29. Y The portion 26 of the lever 24 is provided with lan. elongated slot. 30.l Pivotally ses The oliscV 28 is-'de-k cured in the `slot and slidably mounted therein is a rod 31, having its upper end screwthreaded, as at 32, and having its loWer end connected to the portion 26 of the lever by means of the bolt The bolt 33 is received Within the slot 30.
n Mounted on the screw-threaded end of the rod 31 are a pair of nuts 34, spaced from each other and adapted to receive Va member 35 made of floatable material.
From the construction of the parts just described, it Will be seen that the member may be adjusted vertically by adjusting the nuts 34 on the screw-threaded portion 32 of the rod 31.
Vfhen the Water from the reservoir flows into the casing 11,Y due to gravity, andthe VWater Within the casing 11 reaches a prev(determined height, the lever 24 Will be caused to swing or move on its pivot 22, bringing the disc 28 in position, Where it Will engage the .end of the pipe 18 'for sealing the flow of Water from the reservoir.
lhen-it is desired to have the height of Water' Within the casing 11 changed, the position sori Athe iloatable member 35 on the rod 31 may be varied.
The shifting of the'float element relative 19 will slip off of the end oi' the pipe 18.
|The arrangement, whereby the entire float device may be removed, from the casing is a very-desirable feature.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of my device, Without departing from the essential features and purposes of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims, any modiiied forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents, vvhich may be reasonably included Within its scope.
I claim as my invention:
In a device of the classdescribed, a casing, an intake pipe projecting thereinto, a supporting member secured thereto, a float arm, comprising a flat bar having a substantially upright portion pivoted to said supporting member and carrying a valve for cooperation with the end or' the pipe, and a substantially horizontal portion provided with a longitudinally elongated'slot, a float, a rod adjustably mounted in saidy float, adjusting nuts 0n the rod on opposite sides of lthe float, and a member connected with said rod and adjustably mounted in said slot.
