UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE- CHARLES CRICKM IER, OF DALLAS, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR TO THE GUIBERSON CORPORA- TION, 01' DALLAS, TEXAS, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
IPARAFFIIN' SORAPER FOB WELL APPLIANCES;
Application filed M aIchB, 1925 .Serial No. 12,887.
' --In placing tubing catchers in well casings considerable difiiculty is, frequently encountered when the inner walls are coated with paraflin. Such a condition reduces the inner: diameter and causes the weight of the catchers to move upward and. set the slips. I The object of the invention is to provide a device which may be associated with the lower end of a' tubing catcher or, other well appliance for scraping off the parafiin as the device is lowered in the well casing.
A particular object is to provide a device having. a central tubular support and an annular scraping member surrounding the support and provided with a reduced scraping edge.
.A further object is to' provide a scraper having a plurality'of inclined ports for de end of the sleeve supports the coiled spring 19 which sustains the weight-20. The col fiecting a fiuidpassing therethrough.
Another object of the invention is toprovide a scraper made in two sections, whereby it may be clamped in place without disconnecting the tubing catcher from' the nates a central tubular-'member or sleeve tubing. Y
A construction designed to carry out the inventionwill be hereinafter described together with other features ofthe invention.
The invention-will be more readily understood from a reading-of the following specification and by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which an :example of the invention is shown, and wherein Fig. 1 is a side View of a device constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrated partly in elevation,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same,
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the clamp form of scraper,
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the same, oneof the members being broken away,
Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view the line 55 of Fig. 3,
Figure 6 is a sectional view illustrating the inclined ports forming deflectors, and
Fig.7 is anelevation of a tubing catcherequipped with a scraper'constructed in accordance with my invention.
In the drawings the numeral 10 lesig- 7 having internal screw threads 'llat each inner diameter of the well casing. Wh
the catcher is lowered in the well the lower edge 13 of the collar will scrape the paraftaken on ends Around its upper portion the sleeve is surrounded by a circular scraping collar' 12, The collar preferably has a smooth outer surface extending vertically, but this is subject to variation.
Animportant feature of the collar is. its annular scraping edgesor rims 13 at its upper and lower; ends, formed by dishing the ends of the collar whereby the collar is the fluid may, freely pass the device, the collar is formed with a plurality of'vertical reduced to a narrow edge. In order that passages .or ports 14 extending. there zthrough. These serve'to allowthe fluid-to pass through the collar and also to break it upinto small streams.
In using the scraper the upper end of the sleeve 10 isscrewed onto the lower end of the lower tubing section 18, 'a; tubing catcher, such as is shown in Fig. 7, and the lower end of the sleeve receives the tubing (not shown) below, the catcher. The upper lar 12 has a diameter slightly less than the en fin from the inner walls of the well casing and thus permit the catcher .to 'bemoved' down the well'without tripping the weight move and slips. Also upon an upward ment the upper edge 13 will remove. the parafiin coating;- g
In Figs. 3, .4 and 5, 'Ihave shown another; form in" which the :device may be made in two sections and fastened on the.
tubing immediately= below the catcher.
'This formhas the advantage of being applied without disconnecting the tubing and catcher.
The sleeve 10' isfimade in two seml-circular sections formedat each end with complementary ears 15 and fastened together by bolts '16 and nuts 17. Semii circular collar sections 12 are -provided intermediate theends of the sleeve, The collar has scrapingedges 13' and fluid passages 14-'.-
If it is'desired either form may be made with the type of passages's'hown by the other form. Should a greater retardation of the fluid he required the passages may be given an inclination as at 14 in Fig. 6. This will impart awhirling motion to the fiuid'and rounding the sleeve for scraping the parreduce the impact at the weight of the catcher, whereby said weight will not be .dislodged.
hVariouschanges in the size and shape of t e and alterations may be made within the scope of't'he appended claims.
