This invention is a stove pipe holder forv holding and retaining a' stove pipe in proper position in the chimney flue.
The object of the invention is to provide ia simple and eliicient device for the purpose described and which maybe easily operated for locking the pipe intoV the flue or for releasingthe pipe, as may be desired.
In the drawing'- A Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a stove p-ipe and chimney, showingthis device in operative position; y Y Y Figure 2 is a transverse section through the elbow of the pipe, showing the device operatively mounted therein;
Figure 3 is a right side elevation of theY pipe elbow showing the hand wheel for Winding up the `wire onto the spool; y
Figure 4 is a left side elevation of the pipe elbow showingthe ratchet wheel and ratchet for holding the wire as wound onto the spool; j
Figure 5 is a detail of the wire spool; Y
Figure 6 is a detail of the handwheel.
In combination with the upper horizontal length of stove pipe 1 as inserted in the pipe hole 2 of the chimney 3, and the elbow 14, the invention comprises toggle levers or grapples 4 pivoted together at 5, thefree y ends of the levers being formed intor hooks 6 adapted to engage the inner face 7 oft-he chimney flue at either side of the pipe hole 2, as shown. A brace 8 is pivotallyattached at 9 to one of the levers 4, and the opposite end of the brace passes slidingly through a slot 10 inthe opposite lever 4. There is a stop 11 mounted medially on the brace 8, and a coil spring 12 is mounted over the brace 8 between the stop 11, and the slotted lever 4 normally acts to spread the levers 4 asunder. Side plates 13 are mounted eX- teriorly upon the sides of the elbow 14 and transversely aligned shaft holes 15 are cutA through these plates and through the walls ofthe elbow. A spool shaft V16 havinga ratchet wheel 17 rigidly attached to one end,v is provided, the opposite end of the shaft having a. threaded bolt hole 18.formed longitudinally therein; and a wire spool 19 is also provided, the saine having -a longitudinal shaft hole 20. The wire spool 19 is adapted to pass within the elbow 14 and be positioned transversely therein in align- 'inent with the holes 15, and tlie'spool is of such a length that its ends will not bind against the inner walls of the elbow. The spool 'shaft lf'isthen passed'through the holes y15 of the plates and elbow and through r the shaft hole 20 of the wire spool and the oppositeprotruding end ,of the shaft 16 isv squared to engage a hand wheel 21 having aA squared axial hole 22, and the wheel" is then locked 'upon the end ofthe shaft 16 by means of the washer 23 and bolt-24 passed'into the threaded hole 18. Aligned bolt holes 25 are formed through the spool 19 and spool shaft 1.6 and a bolt 26 is passed through these holes and loclredin place by'7 a nut 27. Thus thespool is firmly* anchored to tliespool shaft.V A spring set pawl 28 -is pivoted at 29V upon a plate 13 adjacenty the ratchet Ywheel 17, the pawl being placed in engagement with the said ratchetwheel so as to --prevent its retrograde movement. A tension wire 30 is attached at V31 to the point 5 of the connected levers 4, and the wireis then run through the-pipe 1 and is attached at its outer end to the holt 26 of -the spool 319.v By. rotatingithe hand wheel '21 inthe direction permitted by the pawl 28, the. wire 30 is readily wound upon the spool 19, thereby effectively'drawing the elbow 14 and pipe 1 'snugly into place against the chimney. The pipe-may be as 'readily released by disengaging vthe pawl 28, vunwinding the wire from the spool, pullingout thepipe 1 and disengagingvthe levers 4 from the chimney flue.
l/Vhile I have herein described a certain specific manner and vmethod of constructing and assembling the elements of 'my ,inven- 'il f nogk tion it is understood that I nia var from Y the same in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention', soas best-r to construct av practical device for the purpose intended, as defined in the appended claim. y
I claim:-V Y
The combination, with a stove pipe and elbow positioned in a flue opening, of av device of the kind described, comprising toggle levers pivoted together so as to forni an approximate A-shape, and having provided at their free ends senii-circular hooks, an arouate brace pivoted t0 one of the said toggle levers and adapted to pass` slidably through a slot yprovided inthe other toggle lever, a stop provided media-lly on said brace, a spring mounted lon'fsid brace and adapted to engage the said stop endsaid toggle lever provided with said slot, whereby said spring` v acts to force asunder said toggle levers, and
means 'for utilizing said toggle levers to p0- stion seid stove pipe and elbow in conjunc 10 tion Witli'said flue opening.r l
In testimony whereof 'I aifix my signature.
