oF-Roorriis'rnit, w r v HICKOK MANUFACTURING COMPANY, me, or Rooiriis'riia, NEWI R K," A coin P i. 91 75! C}??? Y CLAMPING MEMBER-FOR BELT BUCKLES Application filed March 1 9. 1924. Serial No. 700,415. 7
The present invention relates to a clamping member for belt buckles, an object of this invention being to provide a clamping member made from a single piece of sheet material so that a stronger sive structure is provided.
To these and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter set forth; the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims. 7
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a flat sheet metal blank from which the clamping member is formed;
Figs. 2 to 11 show in perspective successive steps in the operation of forming the clamping member; and i Fig. 12 is a perspective View of the completed clamping member.
Referring more partlcularly to, the drawings and particularlyto Fig. 1, 1 and 2 indicate two end portions of a blank, the end portion 2 being slightly larger in w dth andv lengththa-n the end portion 1 and the two end portions being connected by a central portion 3, narrower than both of the end portions and having project-ions or enlargements 4 on opposite sides. This-blank is submitted to a number of successive press-f mg or stamping operations. The result oi the first, operation on the blank is 1llustrated in Fig. 2. In this operation, a portion of the central portion 3 of Fig. l is pressed to form a bar portion or rib 3 with closed ends 4, the extensions or projections 4 of Fig. 1 being utilized in the productionp'f these closed ends 4. The next operation forms serrations or teeth 3 on the hollow bar potion, as illustrated in Fig. 3. The next operation trims the end portions or leaves in the manner shown in Figs. l and 2 Fig. 4, providing, at the same time. notches 2*, between the central portion and the leaf 2 and trimming the central portion on opposite sides of the bar portion 3 so that lips 33* remain on the opposite ends of the bar portion 3*. The next operation turns a flange 2 laterally fromthe portion '2 andprojects the portion 3 of Fig. 4 into the plane of the endportions of 'the hollow bar 3 as indicated at 3 The next operation as illustrated in Fig. 6 merely removes the end portions of 3 as shown in and less expen- Fig. 5 so that thelower edges of the-ends of the bar 3* coinc de with the underside ot the end portions land l The next operation illustrated'in F ig. 7 bends the portion 2 of Fig. 6 so that'it lies. in aplane Wltll the adjacent side wall of the bar. I The operation illustrated in Fig. 8 occurs next.
YoRK, 'li'ssrsrtonsiro" i and in this the portion 2" of Fig. 7 is bent" at an angle to the adjacent side face of the 1 b can 8.. 9, the two end portions overlapping relat on, being received, within the marginal flange W. The operat on effecting the result illustrated in Fig. 10 consists in bending the the end portion 1 marginal flangefZ inwardly to provide a rib or seam 2 overhanging the portion 1? and holding such portion to the port1on2 The operation efi'ectingthe result shown in Fig. 11 consists in cutting the two end portions .L and 2 to provide coincident openings 5, whereas the operation which produces the final article illustrated in Fig. 12 consists in perforating the opposite end walls of the bar 3 as at 6. i f 7 It will thus be apparent'that thismethod gives a clamping member for a belt buckle By the operation illustrated in Fig.
are brought into in which the bar portion is formed from sheet metal and is of hollow form. .From
opposite edges of this bar portion 2, leaves Y formed by the end portions 1 and 2 ofthe blank of Fig. 1 extend, one outwardly from thebarand the other inwardly to close the inner face of the bar and to overlap the leaf proceeding from the one of these leaves-has a flange at its edge bent to overhang the other leaf and both leaves are provided with coincident openings forming from themselves a loop with which one end of a belt may engage.
What we claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
other edge-of the .bar. I
1. A clamping member for belt buckles comprising a bar portion,,and two leaves ext-ending from'opposite sides of said bar j portion, one of said leaves overlapping the other.
2. A clamping member for belt buckles comprising a bar portion, and two leaves ex-- tending from opposite sides of said bar portion, one of said leaves overlapping the an edge bent over an edge of the other leaf.
other and one of said leaves thereof having I comprising a belt portion, and two leaves extending from opposite sides of the belt portion, one of said leaves overlapping the other leaf ancl both leaves having coinci- Iy dent openings. 7
L. A. belt buckle clamping ineinber co1n prising a hollow bar portion, two leaves extending from opposite sides, of the barportion, one beingloent tooverlap the other, one of said leaves having its edges bent to 10 overhang thefeclges of the otherand both leaves having Coincident openings.
