' This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in dispensing devices and refers more particularly to what may be generally termed a peddlers stand.
' This invention contemplates as one of its objects the provision of a readily portable peddlers stand It is another object of this invention to provide a readily portable peddlers stand which is adapted for use in the peddling of other commodities.
Another object of this invention resides in the provision of a peddlers stand of the character described which is of unique and compact arrangement whereby one person may handle an increased volume of business.
Another object of this invention resides in the provision of a readily portable peddlers stand which is of approximately U or horse-shoe shape, having the open end of the U or horse-shoe closed by a gate forming a counter and having variousreceptacles and equipment carried by the U or horse-shoe portion proper. V
Another object of this invention resides in the provision of a peddler stand of the character described which is mounted on Wheels, its weight being supported by the wheels and the stand being balanced by the operator.
, A further object of this invention resides in the provision of a peddlers stand ofthe character described which is capable of in dependent adjustment with relation to the stature of the operator and which is capable of adjustment to regulate the dispensing counter at any desired height.
And a still further object of this invention resides in the provision of a peddlers stand having a plurality of compartments for protecting the commodities which compartments are so arranged as to be within the convenient reach of the one peddling.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel conmore particularly defined by the an hereindisclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claims.
' In the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of 'my invention constructed according to the best mode I have so tar devised for-the practical application V of the principles thereof, and in which con-fectloneries, ice cream, sandwlches on Figure 1 is a view, pa-rtlyin section and partly in elevation, of a portable peddlers stand embodying my invention, said view being taken on the plane 1'-1 of Figure 2; 3 Figure 2 is a top plan of my improved peddler stand, parts thereof being broken away in order to illustrate structural details;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail View, partly in section and partly in elevation, illustrating the wheel support for the stand, and
Figure 4: is a detail view of the means for adjusting the device with relation to the stature of the operator.
, Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates a tubular standard in the lower end of which 'ing suitable supporting wheels 9 rotatably mounted therein. I
The extension 6 is normally urged into the standard 5 by a contractile spring 10, one
end of which is secured, as at 11, to the inner end of the extension and the other end of which issecur'ed, as at 12, to the standard 5. The extension 6 is readily releasably secured in adjusted position against the force of the spring 10 by a ratchet or dog 13 which is pivotally secured, as at 14, to a bracket 15 carried by the standard 5 adja cent its lower end. The ratchet or dog 13 has an actuating lever or edal 16 extended therefrom to facilitate t e disengagement of the end 17 or the ratchet from the rack teeth 18 formed on the extension, the ratchet being normally yieldably urged to engagement with the rack teeth by a spring 19 medially coiled about the pivot 14 with one end impinging against the standard 5 and its other end against the upper surface of the lever 16. Upward movement of lever 16 against spring 19 frees the end 17 of the ratchet from the rack teeth permitting the extension 6 to be drawn into the standard.
5 by the contracting force of the spring 10.
Adjustable on the upper end of the standard 5 is a sleeve or collar member 20 to which the ends of supporting braces or bars 21 are secured, as at 22, the outer ends of the bars having flange members 23 secured thereon for attachment to a substantially U or horse-shoe platform or base'24a The sleeve or collar 20 is secured in adjusted position on the standard 5 by a lever 25 mod ially pivotally secured, as at 26, between two lugs 27 formed on the sleeve 25 and having one end 28 extended inwardly for selective engagement with any one of a number of apertures 29 in the standard. The end 28 of the lever is urged to engagement in the apertures of the standard by a spring 30 confined between the collar or sleeve 20 and the other end 31 of the lever 25. Depression of end 31 of the lever compresses spring 30 disengaging the end 28 from the aperture 29 in which it is inserted, permitting adjustment of the sleeve on the standard.
The base 24:, as previously described, is of substantially U or horse-shoe shape and has suitable containers or receptacles 32 mounted thereon which are normally closed by suitable covers 33. When the stand is to be used for peddling hot dog sandwiches, the outer or closed end of the horse-shoe or U has a compartment 34 thereon in which is located a fuel storage tank 35 connected with a burner or stove36 in a compartment 37 mounted above the compartment 34: by a duct 38. A fuel force pump 39 is provided which is connected with the tank 35, as at 4-0, to maintain a pressure therein.
The weight of the stand is supported by the wheels 9 and the stand is preferably balanced by the operator who is positioned within the space 41, his weight being borne by a seat or saddle 42 preferably of the bicycle type which has a post 4C3 secured in the upper end of the standard. Shoulder straps are provided to facilitate the balancing of the stand and to also permit the operator carrying the stand when he is going up or down a curb or for other purposes, the straps having their ends secured, as at 415, to the base 24.
The open end 46 of the U or horse-shoe is normally closed by a gate forming a counter 47, one end of which is hingedly connected, as at 4:8, to one end of the U and the other end of which is supported on a stop 49 carried by the other end of the U.
WVhile in the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated an arrangement having a stove for dispensing what is commonly termed hot dog sandwiches, it will be readily apparent that candies, icecreams and other articles may be dispensed or a number of articles may be carried at one time, one compartment 32 containing an ice cream freezer, another candy, etc., as will be readily apparent.
When the operator desires to carry the entire weight of the stand for any purpose, the pawl 13 is tripped with one foot, the
spring 10 drawing the extension 6 into the' standard to free the wheels 9 of the ground. The pawl 13 also permits the adjustment of the distance between the seat 4-2 and the wheels 9 in order to adjust the stand to the stature of the operator. The stand may also be adjusted in order to vary the height of the stand proper with respect to the seat by means of the lever 25 as will be readily apparent.
hat I claim as my invention is 1. A peddler stand comprising a standard ground engaging means carried by the lower portion of the standard, a stand propel-carried' by'the upper portion of the standard, a seat for the operator carried by the upper portion of the standard, means for adjusting the stand with respect to the seat, and means for adjusting the ground engaging means with relation to the standard.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a central standard, a U-shaped stand supported from the upper portion of the standard, ground engaging means carried by the lower portion of the standard, a seat carried by the standard and positioned centrally with respect to the U-shaped stand and upon which the operator may sit, the ground engaging means supporting the weight of the stand and the operator when seated, and means permitting the supporting of the weight of the stand by the operator.
3. A device of the character described, comprising a central standard, a U-shaped stand supported'from the upper portion of the standard, wheeled ground engaging means carried by the lower portion of the standard, a seat carried by the standard and positioned centrally with respect to the U- shaped stand and upon which the operator may sit, the ground engaging means supporting the weight of the stand and the operator when seated, and means permitting the supporting of the weight of the stand by the operator.
4. A peddlers stand, comprising a standard, ground engaging means carried by the lower portion of the standard, a base of substantially U shape, means for adjust ing the base with respect to the standard, and a seat for the operator carried by the upper portion of the standard and positioned centrally with respect to the U-shaped base.
5. A. peddlers stand, comprising a base of substantially U shape, 'a container mounted on the base, a standard, means for centrally securing the upper portion of the standard to the U-shaped base, wheeled ground engaging means carried by the lower 10 portion of the standard, and a seat for the operator carried by the upper portion of the standard whereby the operator straddles the ground engaging means.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
