1,599,813 PATENT OFFICE.
NUREMBERG, GERMANY, ASSIGN'OR TO THE FIRM H. FISCHER & 00., OF NUREMBERG, GERMANY.
sounnme WHEELED TOY.
Application filed February 20, 1925, Serial No. 10,662, and in Germany November 20, 1924.
This invention relates to a sounding wheeled toy referably in the shape of a car for an e ectric tramway the doors of which are alternately opened and shut, the movement of the car being stopped at the same time, the doors remaining shut when the car is running but being opened as soon as the car is stopped.
The car comprises further a signal bell which is operated when the motor car has stoppedand the doors are opened.
' An embodiment of the invention is shown, by way of example, on the accompanying drawing, in which V Fig. 1 shows the toy car in side elevation.
Fig. 2 shows in side elevation the machanism for operating the doors.
Figs. 3 and 4 are side elevations showing the-clockwork, the elements of the same be .ing in different positions and displaced 180 with regard to the positions of the same elements shown in Figs. 1 and 2. t
Fig. 5 is a front view of the clockwork.-
Fig. 6 illustrates a constructural detail.
The sounding wheeled toy has the shape of an electric tramway car of the type commonly used in the United States. The tramway car has a door composed of two leaves 1, 2 (Fig. 2). The two door leaves 1,
i are movably mounted in the car by means 7 of rods 3, 4 coupled the one with the other by a connecting rod 5. To one end of said connecting rod 5 a two-armed lever 6 is hingedly connected adapted to pivot around an axle 7 fixed in the car. The lower end of the-two-armed lever 6 engages with a bow.8 fixed on the rod 3 of the door leaf 1. The other end of the connecting 'rod 5 is attached to a bow 9 mounted on an arm 10 which is attached at the other end to the door leaf 2. With this bow 9 engages further the bent end of a driving rod 11 driven from a clockwork. 7
At one end of the car (Fig. 1) a bell 12 is arranged the clapper 13 of which is operated from the clockwork through the intermedia of; a twoarmed lever 14 adapted to osci ate 'around an axle 15 fixed in the car. The lower free end of said lever 14 is acted upon by a cam disk 16 of the clockwork.
On an axle 17 journaled in the housing 18 of the clockwork a frame 19 (Figs. 36) is mounted to oscillate and is rigidly connected with the driving rod 11 for the door leaves 1,2. This frame 19 carries at-either side of its axle 17 an axle 22 and 23 carrymg each a pinion 20, 21 respectively. On the axle 23 the cam disk 16 is keyed which oplerates the lever 14 at theupper end of w 10h the clapper 13 is mounted (Figs. 4 and 3). The pinion 21 on this axle 23 is adapted to be brought in gear :with a toothed wheel 25 keyed on the winding-up axle 24 of the clockwork. The axle 22 carries the two wheels 26 of the car and a pinion 20 on this axle 22 is adapted to be brought in gear with the driving Wheel 27 of the clockwork. On the axle 23 which carries the cam disk 16 an arm 28 is mounted which has a longitudinal slot 29 traversed by the winding-up axle 24 of the clockwork. The up or end 30v of this arm 28 is bent at the rig 1t angles and engages with a cam disk 31 keyed on the winding-up axle 24 of the clockwork.
By the action of the weight of the vehicle the driving wheel 27 of the clockwork is brought in contact with the pinion 20 on the axle 22 which carries the wheels 26 of the vehicle so that these wheels are rotated and rotation of the winding-up axle 24 the cam disk 31 comes in contact with the upper bent end 30 of arm 28 connected with the axle 23 of the oscillatable frame 19 so that this arm is raised and the frame 19 is oscillated in anti-clockwise direction, whereby the pinion 20 on the wheel axle 22 is brought out of gear with the driving wheel 27 (Fig. 3). The movement is interrupted and the vehicle stops.
At the oscillating movement of the frame 19 the rod 11 attached to the same is moved in the direction of the arrow (1 (Fig. 2)
whereby the right door leaf is moved by the arm 10 in the direction of the arrow 6 thatis to say opened. The connecting rod 5 which connects the two doorleaves. 1, 2- moves also in the direction of the arrow 6 wherefrom results an oscillating movement of the two-armed lever 6 in the direction of the arrow c so that the rod 3 ismoved in the direction of the arrow cl pulling open the left door leaf 1.
By the oscillating movement of frame 19 the pinion 21 of the axle 23 which carries the cam disk 16 has been brought in gear with the clockwork wheel 25 (Fig. 3) so that this cam disk 16 is rotated in the direction of the arrow f (Fig. 1) and makes the driving lever 14 of the clapper 18 oscillate in the direction of'the arrow g. \Vhcn the lever 14 slides off the cam disk 16 it jumps back and the clapper 13 strikes against the bell 12. As soon as the cam disk 31 releases the upper bent end 30 of the movable arm 28 the frame 19 is returned by the action of the weight of the vehicle into its initial position. At this rotating movement the rod 11 and the intermediate element controlling the movements of the door leaves 1, 2 are made to move in opposite direction as before so that the door is being shut. At the same time the alarm bell is stopped. When the oscillating movement of the arm 11 is finished and the door has been shut the pinion 20 operating the axle for the vehicle wheels 26 has again come in gear with the driving wheel 27 of the clockwork and the vehicle continues to run until the cam disk 31 causes again, through the. intermediary of arm 28,
. the oscillation of frame 19 so that the abovedescribed roceedings are repeated. The door may a so be a one-leaf door or a hinged door. Each side wall or each end wall of the vehicle may have a door.
I claim 1. .A sounding wheeled toy comprising in combination, a body in the shape of a tram car, sliding doors in the side Walls of said car, an alarm bell mounted at a convenient point in said car, a clockwork mechanism for driving the Wheel axle of said car, a lever system for operating the doors, a lever system for operating the clapper of the alarm bell, a cam disk operated from said clockwork mechanism, and'a frame oscillatably mounted in the housing of the clockwork mechanism, operated from said cam disk and designed to alternately operate said lever system for operating the doors and lever system for sounding the alarm e 2. A sounding wheeled toy comprising in combination a body in the shape of a tramway car, a sliding door in one side wall of said car, an alarm bell in said car, a clockwork mechanisnrin said car, an axle for the rear wheels of saidcar, a pinion on said wheel axle, an oscillatable frame oscillated from said clockwork mechanism, two axles in said frame, an oscillatable rod for operatin said door said rod being controlled directly from said frame, a pinion on each frame axle the one pinion engaging with said pinion on the wheel axle when the oscillatable frame is in the one extreme position, a cam 'disk for acting upon the clapper of said alarm bell, said cam disk being rotated from the pinion on said second frame axle when the oscillatable frame is in the other extreme position. In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
