The o bject of this invention 'is to provide an improved motion-amplifying device ,which is applicable generally to any and gall apparatus/in which.thv-displacement of a movable part 0r member -isfto be'measured, but Vwhich is specially applicable to vregistering barometers.
The device according to my invention consists essentially of a ilexible blade or wirevsultably wound around and tensioned on :pms or studs carried by a movable tat- Atachment, one end of 'which blade is 'securedto the vpart whose displacement'is'to be measured, while its other end is-secured to a stationary frame. The movable attachment carries a 4pointer that indicates or. registers the displacements of the movable end of the blade, and said atachment is Asubjected to the action of an adjustable .spring which opposes or resists the movementl there- 0f :and which is fastened at opposite ends to the attachment and to the stationary frame.

Tensioning of the spring can be effected by means of a. nut Z (Fig. 4:) on its threaded, non-flattened end., said nut bearing against a washer Z supported on the-stationary frame b.

Apparatus for measuringthe extent of movement of a. moving part, comprising a flexible element connected at one end to the moving part; a support to which the other end of said element is connected; a U- shaped attachment movably mounted on the flexible element and having a set-of pins disposed transversely between its sides, around yed in'spaced, horizontal relation, the other two being disposedy in anv oblique line which passes through` the space between the first, two. j im` v5. Apparatus for measuringthe extent of movement of a moving part, comprising a flexible element connected at one end to ^the moving part; a support towhich the other end of said elementis connected; a member movably mounted on the flexible elementand provided with a set of pins around which said zelement is wound inter-- mediate vits ends, said member adapted tol rotate relatively to said element during the movement of said movable part and having a portion thereof which is engaged by said element rounded to prevent'slippage between' said parts and to permit such rotation without friction; a pointer 'carried' by said. member; and a spring connected to oppose said rotation.
