Description

Sept. 7 1926. 1,599,329
' A. c. HINDS REGEPTACLE Filed Feb. 25, 1925 INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Sept. 7, 1 9 26.
ALFRED G; KINDS, OI .I'RANCISGO, CALIFORNIA.
nncnrracm.
Application filedl'ebruary 25, 1985. Serial No. 11,575.
' This invention relates to receptacles forcontaining spices, powders, salt or other granular materials and its principal objects isio provide a receptacle wherein the contents of the can may be sprinkled therefrom or poured therefrom.
A further objectbf the invention is to provide a can or receptacle having a pouring' outlet at one side and a sprinkler or shaker inlet atits opposite side together with valvular means for closing either the sprinkler openin or the pouring opening.
The invention also contemplates a receptacle provided'with a air of slides arranged in the guideway whic maybe actuated as a unit so that either one end of the can or the other may be opened.
With the preceding and other objects and advantages 1n mind, the invention consists in the novel'combination of elements, constructioir and arrangement of parts. and operationsQ-to be hereinafter specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying". drawings, wherein 4 Figure 1 is a top plan view of a receptacle constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the valves in closed position.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the structure before the valves are associated therewith.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view of the device taken on line 3--3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional new on line 4-4]; of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective of the guide in which the slides or valves are mounted. a
Figure 6 is a perspective of one of the valves-provided in the invention.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein correspondi characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, thenumeral 5 designates a 'conventional metallic can such as is used for containing spices and salt or in fact any other granular 0r pulverized material. The" top of the can is indicated at 6 and is formed from a single sheet of metal having its edges bent and crimped around the side walls of the receptacle as indicated at '7. This top 6 is rovided with a channel sha ed guide or epression which extends iagonally across the top to a oint in close proximity tothe corners of the receptacle. A series Movable in this channel sha ed sha ed guide at one end and constitutes a T sha er opening while a single relatively lar e opening 11 is provided in the opposite en and constitutes a pouring openin Struck from the side walls of the shaped guide or depression are pairs of transversely o positel disposed'alined clips 12 that overlie the c annel shaped ides. i e and held a ainst displacement t ere rom is a pair 0 longitudinall movable slide valves 13 ada ted to norma y overlie the openings 11. Each of these slide valves 1s formed from a longitudinal strip of metal having one end bent at right angles and thence bent upon itself to provide a finger en agin element 14. r
n or er to lock the slide valves in position to overlie the openings 10 and 11 each of these slide valves is provided with a air of transversely alined rounded lugs 16 w ich are adapted to enga e the clips 12 as shown in Figure 1 of the frawings and due to the slight resiliency of these s11 s these lugs will pass under the same when t e valves are being disposed to either an open or closed position.
As illustrated in the drawings, the finger enga ing elements are so arranged as to permit t of the same to be grasped and thereby move both of the slide valves in a given direction so "that the desired openin will be uncovered. 1' It will be thus observe that the can may be, used either as a sprinkler for seasoning foods or a quantity of the material may be poured therefrom.
While I have shown and described the pre--- be made in the form, construction, arrangement of parts and operations, as will not dechannel shaped member, and rounded lugs ferred embodiment of the invention, I desire. to have it understood that such changes may a formed on each valve and cooperatively associated'with said clips in such manner that disposed in closed position and the inner edges of said clips to prevent the closing of 7 said valves when said valves are disposed in open position, and pass undersaid clips when the valves are disposed to either an open' or closed position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. 3 1
ALFRED C. HINDS.
