arranged for grinding,'and :which is revers-J ible and adapted to be easily attached to a standard head or holder.
Another object ofthe invention is, to provide such a plate having either both or one of its grinding faces formedto provide, with an opposingplate, a space therebetween which decreases outwardly from the center.
This construction facilitates. grinding, as all material, of whateverhardness or sizetthe size of course being withinthe limits of the space between thecenter of the plates) is drawn into contact -with the grinding faces, and is gradually and continuously diminished in size as itpasses between the converging faces of the plates to the outlet at the outer edges'thereof. Because of this even, continuous receiving of the material to be ground, a consistent mixture of a combination of different materials of varying sizes and hardness, such as oats, wheat, and
corn, may be produced. 7
Still anotherob 'ect of the invention is to provide such a plate which may be easily balanced after it ha'sbeen made and tempered.
l Other objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds; and while herein details of theinvention are described, the
invention is not limited to these, since many 'andvarious changesmay be made without departing. from the scope of the invention as claimed. Y p v In the accompanying drawing, showing byway of example one of many possible embodiments ofthe invention, Fig. 1 is a view of one face of the plate.
Fig. 2 is'a sectional elevation on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 1s a face view, enlarged, of a segment of a plate.
Fig. 4 is a segmental sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 3, showing a plate holding the bolt hole. 1 V

' TAPnREn-Fncn GRINDING PLATE.
1923. Serial No. 642,812.
In: the embodiment shown there is provided a holder H of the usual construction, having a. circular recess therein to receive the grinderplate A, which plate is provided with ribs, generally denoted by B. The plate A withthe ribs B isa single piece of drop forged steel, tempered. I
The ribs B'comprise radial ribs Z) joined together by circular ribs d, thereby forming depressions or pockets 10. The ribs B are provided with, faces 12 ground to provide cutting edges 15 around said faces, but where the ribs 13 join the plate A to form the depressions 10,'the corners are rounded, which facilitates bringing the material into contact with said cuttingedges 15 by giving it, in conjunction with the opposite plate, a
rolling motionout ofthe depressions against the cutting edgesof' the ribs.
The surfaces of the ribs B areground to form an angle, as 16, Fig. 5, to a plane 20, thereby providing, with an opposite plate D, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 5, an outwardly decreasing space 22 between said converging plates A and D. i
For attaching the plateA to the head H, there are provided, near the inner and outer edges on both sides of the plate, preferably, but not necessarily, in staggered relation, registering rectangular bosses 30, the faces 31 of which lie in the outer face planes of the plate; the edges of the faces 31 also being cutting edges. Through the bosses 30' and plate A there is provided a tapped bolt hole 40, as shown in. Fig. 4, and when the plate is placed in the holder, which is provided with holes registering with holes 40, bolts 45 are passed though holder and screwed into holes 40, thereby securing the platev firmly in the holder H. The faces of bosses 30 being in the same plane wear equally and when the plate is reversed present a fiatbearing surface against the holdproperly balanced by filling in said holes with any suitable metal the required amount.

1. The combination With a grinder plate head having a circular recess, of the reversible grinding disk having tapering grinding faces and disposed in said recess, bosses on one side of said disk having their faces in the same plane, bosses on the other side of said disk having their faces in the same plane and being arranged opposite said first bossesyeach-pair of opposed bosses having tapped bolt holes extending entirely through the disk, there being bolt holes tapped in said head to register with the bolt holes in said disk, and bolts extending'through said head and disk to secure said disk in place with the heads of said bolts disposed adjacent said grinder plate head, the ends of said bolts being disposed adjacent to the grinding face so that the grinding face and the ends of the bolts will be subjected to the same degree of Wear.
2. A reversible grinding disk having tapering grindingfaces; bosses on one side of said disk having their faces in the same plane; bosses on the other face'of said plate having their faces in the same plane and beingarranged opposite said first bosses; said bosses on each side being adapted 'to provide a plane surface when said plate is reversed, there being bolt holes tapped in said bosses, and bolts disposed therein for securing the disk in place with the ends of the bolts adjacent to the grinding faces.
3. A grinding inill, comprisinga rotatable head; a reversible grindingQdisk 1 having tapering grinding faces; bosses on one side of said disk registering with bosses on the other side of the disk, the faces of the bosses on each side lying in the outer planes of the grinding faces; said bosses and plate having tapped bolt holes theretlnough; bolts passing through said head into said tapped holes; and there being recesses in the edge of said disk, means in said recesses for'balancing said disk after completion.
4-. The combination with a grinder plate head, having a circular recess, of reversible grinding disks, having tapering grinding faces on each side thereof and disposed in the recess, a plurality of bosses on each side of the disk, the faces of the bosses on the same side being in the same plane, means-in said bosses for attaching the grinding disk to said plate head, said bosses being adapted to wear evenly throughout,.,whereby toallow for reversal of the'disk.
