Canceling devices for ke board mechanisms of calculating and a ding machines are known, in which the key-locking bars are canceled or released by a finger, rigidly mounted on the drivinfr shaft, acting in cooperation with a lever ockinv device. Such devices` are suitable for machines in which the ,driving shaft is only rotated in one direction. In calculating and adding malo chines, however, in which the driving shaft is rotated in the one or the other direction` in accordance with the calculating or mathematical operation to be effected, the cancellation or releasing of the key-locking bars l5 by means of a finger, rigidly mounted on the shaft, is not possible, since the cancellation must always be eiected during the last4 ortion of the rotary movement of the shaft 1n the one or in the other direction.
,The object of the present invention is to provide cancelin means which may be 'em- `ployed for cance ing the keys on the rota-I tion of the driving shaft vin the one as well as in the other direction, in which case at the same time provision is made for locking the keys, in order toprevent the keys of the key mechanism from being set, when the driving shaft has been moved'from its zero sition, thus preventing false results from eing shown. y y
According to the invention this is achieved in the f ollowin manner. On rotating the driving shaft, t e cancellation of the mechanismis effected by an en aging member or the like connected with said shaft enga ing a iin r, loosely and rotatably mounte on the living shaft, operatin a lever transmission, o the key-loc g ars, in dependency on the action of t e cancellation de- 4o Ivice, and the release of the key-locking bar 4by meansof a cam disc mounted on and rotating with the driving shaft.

Pivotally mounted at the rear of the key-locking bars 2 on the frame of the machine is a bel crank lever 11, one arm 28 of which is linked to a rod 29. The rod29 is slidably arranged .in bearings 30 and drawn by a sprin 31 against the cam disc 24. Obvious y the rod 29 could be provided at its free end with a head or a roller for engaging in a cam groove in the disc 24, in which case the spring 31 could be omitted, and the movement of the bell crank lever 11 would be effected positively. l The operation of the device is as folows:-
On turning the handcrank 7, the disc 24 is likewise rotated. The inger-15 remains in its downwardly directed position until the pin 25 on the disc 24, during the revolution of the latter, engages against the finger 15. From this moment the lin r 15 is rotated together with the disc an makes contact with and raises the end of the lever 16, whereupon the other end is moved downe ward and causesV the vcancellation in known manner. As soon as the hand crank 7 is moved out of its zero position, the cam 9 of the disc 24 moves out of-enga ement' with the rod 29, which latter, under t e action of the sprin 31, is moved to the left from thel sitlon s own inw Fig. 1 into that shown in ig. 2. The bell crank lever 11 is thereby osclllated so that its free arm' is moved upwards into the'path of the key-'locking bars 2, locking the same against displacement, as shown in Fig.l 2. On a further rotation of the hand crank 7 the cam projection 9 engages the rod 29, and returns the latter into the position shown in Fig. l, so that the free end of the bell crank lever 28 is moved out of the path of the key-locking bars.
The same operation of the locking devices is obviously attained. if, as mentioned above, the rod 29 is positively moved to and fro.

In a calculating machine including depressible operating keys; the combination of spring controlled means for locking said keys in their raised or de ressed positions, (1o-operating means movab e to an operative position to fix said locking means against unlocking movements and to a releasingI position' to' permit such unlocking movements, a rotary shaft, a disc fast on said shaft, controlling means combined with said disc controlling the operation of said co-operating means, a finger loosely mounted on said shaft,
and a stop on said disc arranged to engage said nger and couple it to said shaft in predetermined relation to said controlling means for moving the key locking means to its inoperative position to release the keys, subsequently to the actuation of said co-operatlng means to release said key locking means.
3. In a calculating machine including depressible operating keys, the combination of spring controlled means for locking said keys in their raised or depressed positions, a rotar shaft, a cam disc fast on said shaft, an means .operated by said cam disc, on the one hand to permit movement of said locking means to. an inoperative position, and on the other hand to adjust the key locking means to an inoperative position to release said keys.
4. In a calculating machine including depressible operating keys, the combination of spring controlled means for locking said keys in their raised or depressed positions, co-operating means movable to an operative position to fix said locking means against unlocking movements and to a releasing position to permit such unlocking movements, a rotary shaft, a di'sc on said shaft, a nose on said disc controlling the operation of said co-operating means, a finger loosely mounted on said shaft, and a 1n on said disc arranged to engage said nger and couple it to said shaft -in predetermined relation to said nose for moving said'key locking means to its inoperative position to release the keys, subsequently to the actuation of said co-operating means to release the key locking mechanism.
5. In a calculating machine including depressible operating keys, the combination of a spring controlled bai'. for locking said keys in the raised or depressed position, 'means for locking said bar against movement, movable to` a'position to release the same, means for actuating said bar to release the keys when the bar locking means is moved to release the bar, a rotary shaft, and operating means carried by the rotary shaft 'for operati-ng the bar locking means and the key locking bar, said operating means being operatively so timed that the bar locking means is actuated to release the bar just before the key locking bar is moved to release the keys.
