numerals 1 and 2 illustrate parallel side frames which. are bolted to a bed of concrete or thelike thru the means 3, and at one end are provided with pillow blocks 4 in which a shaft 5 is cradled, this shaft being retained in position in the pillow blocks 4 by, caps 6. The frames 1 and 2 support a shaft 7 at the ends opposite to the pillow blocks 4 and on this shaft a pulley wheel 8 is rigidly mounted intermediate its length. This shaft is retained in place by the caps 9, and the end whichextcnds from the frame 2 has a fly wheel 10' mounted thereon. The opbeing in continuous mesh with the spur gear 11. The frames 1 and 2 are provided with ledges 16 at various positions in order to support the foot plates 17 of additional frames 18 and 18, the foot plates of said frames being secured to the ledges 16 by bolts 19. peripheries of. the rollers being normally retained in mutual yieldable contact. The roller 91 has approxin'iately half its periphery immersed in water which is contained in alongitudinzl tank 28, the latter being supported beneath the roller 27. The sheet material or a paper from'thc roll 29 is trained about part of the periphery of the roller 27 and rides between. the rollers 26 and 27, and its lower surface is moistened as the periphery of the roller 26 accomplishes this purpose; An additional roll 3 is mounted on a. shaft 31 at the corners of the frames 18 and 18, this roller supporting said paper or sheet material and also changes its. cour le so that after passing from the periphery of the roll to where it enters between the rolls 32 and 33, it reverses its surfaces so that the surface which was originally at the bottom is transposed and becomes the upper surface. The roll 33 mounted in the guides 21 lies beneath the rol 32 and a portion of its periphery is continually immersed. in a tank of water 34: in a similar manner as the roller 27. These guide members 29, 21 and 22, are provided with caps to prevent inadvertent pulling out of the shafts 24, 37, and 38, supporting their individual rolls, and the caps 35 surmounting and bolted to the guide members 20 and 821 are provided with springs 36 which urge the shafts 37' and 38 downwardly so that the peripheries of the rolls 32 and 42 mounted on these shafts will movably contact with the peripheries of the lower rolls.

Upper horizontal guide arms 54 and lower guide arms 55 are provided on the main frames 1 and 2, the arms 54-- being directly superimposed over the arms 55. The guide channels between the upper arms and 57 upon which parallel and adjacent feeding rolls 58 and 59 are mounted. These shafts 56 and 57 extend slightly beyond the. frame 2, the extending end of the shaft 56 being provided with a gear 60, while the opposite shaft 57 has a gear 61 secured thereon which meshes with the gear 60, the shaft supporting said gear 61 also having a sprocket wheel 621 rigidly mounted thereon. The rolls mounted on the shafts 56, 57,- 63, and '64, have their peripheries retained in yieldable position by the caps 67 beneath which coil springs 68 are mounted. The roll 65 is in synchronous rotation with its upper roll 59 thru a bevel gear attached to the end of the shaft 63 which extends beyond the frame 2, the sprocket wheel 63 on the shaft 63 being connected to the sprocket wheel 62 by a sprocket chain 69. These rolls 58, 59, 65, and 66, are actuated independently of the remainder of the feeding mechanism 18 and 18 and have a movement which serves to intermittently rotate the rolls, the linear distance of movement being equal to the diameter of the blank to be punched from the sheet material. This intermittent movementof the rolls 58 and 59 is accomplished thru a crank mechanism which comprises a cap 70 rigid with the shaft-12 which extends from the frame 1,and an eccentric stud 71 extending from this cap is joined to one end of a rod 72. The opposite end of this rod 72 is secured to a stud 73, the-latter being mounted on a disk 74 off-set from its rotational axis. Guide bars 75 are rigidly mounted on the face of this disk and have cap plates secured to their end which rotatably retain a this threaded stud A block is slidahlc between the bars 75 and has a threaded opening in which the screw stud 76 is engaged. In a machine for producing caps having the essential characteristics of a crown and a curved annular rim, a pair of frames, a die head mounted horizontally between the frames, collars having an internal annular shearing edge, bolts fixed on said frames parallel thereto, a movable head slidable on said bolts, sleeve-like members fixed in said-movable .head on a vertical face thereof, the outer edge of said members being co-operative with the collars to form annular blanks, forming heads slidably mounted in said members, stems on saidforming heads passing thru the sleeve members, a curved shoulder on the faces of the forming heads, said shoulder being adapted to co-operate with the die area within the collars to produce a crown on theicap, means for producing a convex curvature on the crown surface, a shaft, eccentric disks on said shaft coupled to and adapted to reciprocate the movable head and additional eccentric disks coupled and adapted to reciprocate the forming punches, the latter being independently movable in the sleeve members, and means for retracting orextending the forming punches in the sleeve members as a unit.

In a machine for producing caps having the essential characteristics of the crown and curved annular rim, a pair of frames, a die head mounted horizontally between the frames, collars having an internal annular shearing edge, bolts fixed on said frames parallel thereto, a movable head slldable on said bolts, sleeve-like members fixed in said movable head on a vertical face thereof, the outer edge of said members being cooperative with the collars to form annular blanks, forming heads slidably mounted in said members, floating punches mounted in the punches, said floating punches having a convex face, the latter being cooperative with the die to form a'convex curvature of the crown of the cap, stemslon said forming heads, a shaftcouplin the rear ends of said stem, eccentric disks adapted to recip rocate the movable head and sleeve membms frames paralle mounted thereon,-additional eccentric disks being adapted to independently reciprocate the forming head in the sleeve members, eccentric rods connecting the disks with the coupling shaft of the forming punches, said eccentric rods comprising hollow arms, connecting arms slidable in said hollow members, a threaded portion in said connecting arms, a nut engaging said thread, a spring mountedcin said hollow arms on the connecting arm being adapted to extend the latter, blocks on the ends of the connectingarms, and means for-adjusting the position .of said blocks with respect to the connecting arms.
