BUTTON LOCK.
Application filed November 17, 1924. Serial No. 750,329.
The object of the invention is to provide a button-lock for clothing.
The invention relates to improvements in button fasteners in which the method of attaching the button to the cloth is by means of a barbed loop, which fixes the button to the clothing by inserting it in a springy lockplate, which attaches on the wrong side of the cloth.
One form of the invention is illustrated the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken through the button and button lock in fixed and locked position.
F 2 is an enlarged face View of the but ton lock with button, cloth and upper coven plate removed.
Fig. 3 shows the front side of the button and backside of the lockplate of the button lock on a fragment of cloth.
Referring more particularly to the views,
11 indicates the staple (two in the present instance) substantially U-shaped in which each leg from 12 is tapered down to a smaller section to form an offset at 13 which serves as a barb against the lockplate. From 13 it is tapered down to a point at letto facilitate the putting through the cloth.
The lockplate proper 15, is, for the purpose of hooking on to the barbs at 13, provided with longitudinal springy edges 16, leaving small openings 17 which are pressed out by inserting the staple 11 into them.
The upper circular cover plate 18, has 35 holes 19, which serve as guides for the legs of the staple 11.
The lower cover plate 20 is a circular plate with a recess 21, covering and giving space for the ends of the loops. It has a backward bend 22,- serving to fix and keep in place the lockplate proper 15, and upper cover plate 18.
I claim:
1. In a button-fastener of the class clescribed, a plurality of staples, offsets on said staples to form means thereon for piercing a fabric, a means resting on said offsets for locking said button and staples to said fabric, and a pair of cover plates for holding r the parts in their relative adjusted positions.
2. In a button-fastener, a plurality of staples having oflsets for forming pointed and barbed branches or legs adapted to pierce a garment underneath the lining thereof, a locking plate resting on said offsets having openings formed therein allowing the passage of said branches, a cover plate therefor, a springy outer margin formed with said cover plate, and a lower cover plate having a groove formed with the same by its re-entrantly bent outer marginal edge adapted to receive said springy margin for holding the parts firm; ly in their relative positions to attach the button to the garment.
