Description
Aug. '31;192s. 1,598,526 a L. A. JENNY RADI TUNING DEVICE Filed may 17. 1924 lao Patented Aug. 3.1, 192e.
PATENT o i-Ficia LOUIS ALFRED JENNY, OF DUMONT,
NEW JERSEY.
`RADIO TUNING DEVICE.
Application tiled lay 17, 18M. Serial No. 714,051.
My invention relates to improvements in radio tuning devices, an object of the invention beingto provide ment of tuning coils in which an outer primary coil has ivotally .mounted therein fon the saine axis a plurality of other coils.
ore specifically the invention vincludes an outer primary coil, enclosing a portion or all of a seconda of the primary coil, which triplex arrangement is laced over a standard bulb and socket, ereby` obtaining a very 'eicient coil and saving considerab e space i n the set.
I attain these objects by arranging these coils, bulb and socket as illustrated in the accompanym drawing in which;
Figure 1 ows a view of the primary coil, consisting of a suitable tube, having consisttwo independent sets of windings c covered ing of a suitable number of turns of wire as indicated at4 and 5.
c Figure .2 is a top view of whic the secondary coil 6 is these coils, in placed inside the primary coil and the tertiary coil 7 is.
placed inside of coil 6, screws 8 andl sleeves 10.
Figures 3 shows the secondary coil 6 and the tertiary coil 7 placed inside ofthe lprimary coil. YBothcoils 6 and 7 are tilte to a fixed angle held by screw 9.
Each of these coils 6 and 7 consistv of suitable tubing, having a suitable number of windings 11 and 12 of covered wire leading held in place by an improved arrangeand tertiary coil inside to a tap screw, ma coil. l
I used as a 4 circuit tuner each of the windin 4, 5, 11 and 12 is used separately. If Au to tune 2 or 3 circuits any two sets of windings, such as 5 and 11, may be connected together. i In order to savesome space and increase the cciency of the tuner by obtaini shortest possible connections from bu coil and to prevent loss of ener as much as possible, a socket 13- and a Ei'l'lb 14:v are placed 'inside of the tertiary coil as illustrated.
I am aware that rior to. my invention radio tuning devices br two, three and four circuit apparatus have been made. I therefore do not claim such a combination broadly; but 1 claim A radio tuning ,element of the character described comprising a rimary coil, a secondary coil within andP substantially concentric with the prima coil, a tertiary coil within and substantia lyl concentric with the seconda coil, said coils bein pivotally mounted wit respect toone anot er on axes transverse to the axes of the coils, and :i vacuum tube and socket di sed within a c entral'space abounded by said coils, whereby electrical connectors between said. coils and said tube may befof minimum l y L. A. v
