SAMUEL J. DECHER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
roLnABLr. oLorrrEs CABINET.
Application filed September 17, 1923. Serial No. 663,261.
The present invention relates to a foldable clothes cabinet and more particularly to a frame for forming a clothes cabinet.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature having a simple and eflicient construction, one which is reliable, inexpensive to manufacturaattractive in appearance, foldable, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. Y
With the above and numerous other objects in View as will appear as the descriptionprogresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure lis a perspective view of vice embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a section taken substantially on the line .22 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows,
the deii lgures S) and 4- are transverse sections taken substantially on the lines 33 and ii-41 respectively of Figure 2, and
Figure 5 is a detail section taken substan 'tially on the line 5-5 of Figure 4.
neferring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the device includes a main frame Y A and an auxiliary frame B. In actual practice when the device is in use the auxiliary frame B is disposed in a substantially vertical plane adjacent the wall C or other support while the main frame A is in a substantially horizontal position extending ontwardly from .the wall and the auxiliary frame. The main frame and auxiliary fran'ie are hinged together and may be fold ed when not in use or the angle formed therebetween may be varied as may be desired.
The auxiliary frame B includes a substantially U-shaped body 1 formed with an intermediate portion 2 and a pair of legs 3., the major portions of which diverge from each other and terminate in eyes 4-. A brace rod connects the arms 3 by bein provided with eye terminals 6 engaging the arms intermediate their ends but in close proximity to the intermediate portion 2. This intermediate portion 2 is adapted to be engaged with suitable fastening members 8 'extend ing from the wall C.
The main frame A is formed from a strand of wire starting at 10. This wire is bent at right angles at 11 and is then bent upwardly at 12 and is offset and further bent to provide a portion 13 extending above and parallel to the portion 14: and then further bent so that a portion 15 extends over and parallel to a portion 16. The wire is then twisted and engaged with the end 10. This twisted portion 17 is provided with a pair of parallel superimposed spaced portions 18 and 19. The wire is then extended and bent at right angles to form the portion 20 and is further bent at right angles to form the portion 21 which is engaged with the portion 14 adjacent the portion 12. A plurality of bracing rods 22 extends transversely across the main frame A and the rods are engaged with its twisted portion and the portion 15 at one end and at their other ends to the portion 21. The portion 21 receives one of the eyes 4 while the portion 12 receives the other eye 4: of the auX- iliary frame B. As is disclosed to advantage in the dotted line portions of the drawing, a curtain is draped over the brace rod 5 and the upper portions of the main frame A, and slide curtains are engaged with the lower portions of the main frame, namely portions 14, 16, 18 and 20. The curtain draped from the brace bar over the upper portions of the main frame is preferably allowed to extend further downwardly as indicated in Figure 4- so as to hide the upper portion of the slide curtain. .v v i The curtains may be draped about thedevice in any suitable manner and I have meres ly mentioned the above by way of example to explain the utilityof the device It is also evident that numerous changes in the details of construction and in the combina tion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 1. A device of the class described including a frame formed from a single strand of wire bent to provide a substantially rectangular formation having straight portions of single strands and straight portions having spaced upper and lower substantially parallel strands, portions of the double strands being twisted about each other so as to secure the same together, and means for supporting the frame.
2. A device of the class described including a .trame formed from a single strand of wire bent so as to provide a lirst straight portion, a second straight portion extending at right angles from the lirst straight portion, two other straight portions or double strands, all of said straight portions associated to form substantially rectangular formation, a twisted portion disposed between the ends of one ot the straight portions 01' double strands, and means for supporting the frame.
3. A device of the class described inclut ing an auxiliary traine and a main frame, said auxiliary frame being substantially U- shaped in formation to pr ride a straight intermediate upper portion and a pair oi depending diverging side portions, a brace connected to the side portions and extendparallel with the intermediate portion, said main "frame being hinged to the terminals ot the side portions and formed from a single length of wire bent to provide a substantially rectangular formation having an upper strand and a lower strand and portions of the said upper and lo ver strands being twisted about each other whereby to secure the same together.
t. A device of the class. described including in combination, an auxiiary trame and a main irame, said auxil ary iranie being substantially U-shaped in tormation to provide a straight intermediate portion and a pair of diverging side PO11 z, brace connected to the side portions and extending parallel with the intermediate portion, said main frame being hinged to the terminals ot the arm portion and including a structure formed from a single strand ot wire bent so as to provide a iii-st straight portion, a second straight portion extending at right angles from the first straight portion, two other straight portions of: double stranthall of said straight portions associated to "form a rectangle and a twisted portion dispose intermediately ot the straight; portions having the double strand. 1*
5. A device of the class described including an auxiliary frame and a main trame, said auxiliary frame being substantially U- shaped in formation to provide a straight intermediate upper portion and a pair of depending diverging side portions, said main frame being hinged to the terminals of the diverging side portions and formed from a single length of wire bent to provide a substantially rectangular formation having straight portions of single strands and straight portions having spaced upper and lower parallel strands a portion of the double strands being "\visted about each other whereb to secure the same together.
(3. A device of the class described including a frame formed i'rom a single strand of wire bent to provide a substantially rectangular torina'tion having one side portion and rear portion thereoi of single strands, the front )ortion and other side portion being .tormed of spaced upper andv lower narali'el strands, a portion ot the double strands oi the trout portion being twisted about each other whereby to secure the same together.
T. A device ot the class described includ ing an auxiliary frame and a main frame, said auiziiary frame being substantially U- shaped in tormation to provide a straight intermediate upper portion and a pair or" depending side portions, a brace connectml to he side portions and extending between the intermediate portion. said main tranie being hinged to the terminals of the (live 51' side portions and formed 'rom a single length of wire and bent to provide a sul stantially rectangular formation having one side portion and rear portion formed oi single strands, the front portion. and other side portion beingformed oi spaced upper and lower parallel strands, and portions o the upper and lower stra (ls ot the trout portion being twisted about each other whereby to cure the same together.
In testimony whereot I ailix my signature.
