Description

4UNITEE STATES PATENT OEEG.
ZENAS M. LANE, OF ROGKLAND, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT lN AWNlNG-HOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,586, dated February 9, 1875; application tiled December 28, 1874.
To 4all lwhom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, ZENAS M. LANE, oi Rockland, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Awning-Hook, of which the following is a specification: y
My invention relates to hooks for awnings and other purposes; and consists in the combination, with a hook, of a hook-closing rod or bar, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing forming part of this specification, Figure l represents a side View of one of my improved awninghooks, and Fig. 2 represents a view of the rod shown in Fig..l detached. Y
Awnings are commonly held by means of eyed hooks, and a cord is laced from the hooks through eyelets in the awning; but with such hooks the awning is liable toget loose.
My awning hook a has a screw shank, b,
and through its top passes a screw-rod, c, the
screw-thread e engaging a screw-threaded hole in the hook. The awning is placed over the end of the hook, as shown, the hook passing preferably directly through .the eyelet of the awning, and then the closing-rod c is inserted. This rod prevents the awning from becoming unhooked. The hook may be provided with a driveshank, instead ot a screw shank, as shown.
Having described my invention, I claim- The combination, with the awning-hook, of the hook-closing rod or bar, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence ot' two subscribing witnesses.
ZENAS M. LANE.
