AUTO ROBE CABLE.
Our invention relates to an improvement in auto robe cables and method of manufacturing the same, shown in the accompanying drawings and more particularly described in the following specification and claims.
The primary object ofvour invention is to produce a neat, Well finished and attractive looking flexible robe cable for automobiles and to reduce the cost of manufacturing same over those now in use. In carrying this invention into effect a flexible Wire cable is employed which is fitted at predetermined intervals throughout its length with a plurality of arbitrarily spaced from each other. The cable is covered with tubular fabric linings braided over the cable and its enlarged lug portions ;*its diameter being increased as may be required by a plurality of coverings applied one over the other. An outer covering known in the textile art as chenille, the fibers of Which have a flexible metallic core, is then applied over the several linings7 as a finishing cover ;-a chenille matching or harmonizing in color With the upholstery of the automobile being preferably employed.
Another object of our invention is to construct the auto robe vcable continuous, to be afterwards divided into proper lengths for use upon automobiles of the closedbody type.

A, represents a Wire cable. B, B, denotes a plurality of lead or soft metallicV lugs mounted upon and engaging the Wire at spaced intervals from each other.
C, designates a braided fabric covering the Wire and enlarged portions. This fabric covering can be the product of a loom, a braiding machine or a Winding machine or it can be made in any suitable manner. D and D1, represent similar coverings respectively Woven over the first and second cove 1ings thereby enlarging the diameter of the robe-cable.
E, denotes a tubular chenille covering apand D1, the strands of which have a metallic core e. This covering may be made in any suitable manner.
F, designates a sheet metal sleeve or thimble to be secured to the cable in place of the lead lug or sleeve.
G, indicates a bracket formed of sheet metal adapted to be secured to the back of an auto seat H, having an end opening to receive the cable ;*the enlarged portions of which are held within, and by the vvallls of the brackets.
In the manufacture of this device a Wire cable is conductedfrom a spool to means adapted for applying asuitable volume of lead or other soft metal to the cable at arbitrarily spaced intervals. The cable When properly fitted With the lugs or enlarged portions is then covered with a plurality of suitable textile coverings applied one over the other. hese lining` coverings are then enclosed by a more `finished fabric such as chenille of' a color complementary or matching that of the upholstery of the automobile in which it is installed. When the cable is oit` suitable diameter and covered with the nished fabric it is out into proper lengths Ybetween the enlarged lug` portions thereby providing an enlargement at each end of each lengt-h oi robe-cable. then ready to be fitted with brackets 'for attachment to an automobile, as indicated.
Having thus described our invention what We claim is:
l. As an article oi manufacture, a Wire core, a plurality of pairs ot spaced lugs attached to said Wire core, each pair of lugs bein-g spaced a distance greater than the tween the lugs olf' each pair,
